I agree, also I look forward to hearing about Harvin's off the field issues returning at some point. He was a great player for us but has the potential to be a cancer in the locker room and off the field. I am glad we traded him before he got out of hand. Patterson has a very bright future. And I am glad that we have Jennings who can mentor him.

I think anyone with reservations about this kid needs to watch this video and consider that these highlights, 8 minutes worth of jaw dropping plays, are from ONE year at Tennessee against (mostly) SEC defenses.

I am excited to have him and I'm ecstatic about our first round picks.

We'll have to see how well his style of running translates to the NFL. It's couldn't be more different from that of Percy Harvin, who was a slashing runner unafraid to lower his shoulder into a defender. Harvin didn't dance around many tacklers during his time in Minnesota. It should work well on punt returns, but it could be a liability on kickoffs. We've all seen indecisive kick returners who hesitate or run sideways and don't last long at the job. Likewise, Harvin's style worked well in the short passing game because he was both extremely quick to turn up field and willing to take on defenders. Patterson has a different skill set.

It's a little mind-boggling, isn't it?

Admittedly, I've had reservations about him because of his current skill set and I see him as a "boom or bust" player but the potential for him to be a fantastic playmaker at the next level is readily apparent and I understand why the Vikes wanted to go get him. I'm glad they did. I'm excited about the pick and I can't wait to see him play in purple. I don't know how good he'll eventually become but I have very little doubt he's going to give us some memorable, electrifying moments in the years to come. His instincts and elusiveness with the ball in his hands are really something to see.

I think the boom or bust label is a little too black and white, because he should always prove to be a big difference maker in the return game whether or not he ever reaches his potential as a wide receiver.

I had reservations too, but I feel like we kind of needed this kind of playmaker on offense. A spark plug who can electrify the whole stadium with one touch. It's worth the gamble. I think he fits Musgrave's scheme too.

As much as I loved to watch him play, Percy never quite fit in with this organization. Too insular, hostile, egotistical and childish to ever move beyond just being gifted and electrifying athlete. I don't think it was a coincidence that this team started to gel and played their best football when he exiled himself to Florida. It would be nice to have his skills, but his personality now thankfully is the Seahawk's problem.

I agree. It's just fun to type "boom or bust". :)

Seriously, it's not that I really see only those two options for the guy. I just use that phrase to describe the extremes of what could happen. He's one of those players who could be a superstar, a bust or anything in-between. The sky is the limit with Patterson but even if he doesn't become a star, he could still provide a lot of help.

That's a good point, I think everyone was surprised our #2 offensive player goes down and we rattled off a series of tough wins. It's quite possible with Jennings and Patterson MINUS Harvin, we're much better off!

That's where I'm at as well. This guy should be able to handle kick / punt returns and the plays we had for Harvin, at minimum I see him being able to do that which is why I feel better about the pick. If he never becomes a top, polished, complete WR I don't think that automatically makes him a bust, otherwise we'd have to call Harvin a bust and Seattle just gave up an awful lot for a bust...

At least ESPN included the pissy hands in the air give up on the INT clip.

He's another petulant immature player who isn't polished enough to trust on an every down basis. Who's more of a gadget player than a receiver.

At least he's only had one season in big time college football, and doesn't have any idiots in the locker room like Moss to mess with his head. Some good coaching along with a good solid group of players now that we got rid of that bum Harvin, and at least he has the potential to be more then just a glorified scat back and return specialist. Hopefully the coaches earn their checks, after how many years of how many receivers....maybe they can finally get something out of one of them that wasn't already there when they got him!

Not that I disagree that Patterson is a different style of elusive, I think to say Harvin didn't dance around many tacklers isn't exactly accurate. He danced a lot, he also lowered his head and bulled players too, but he made a lot of people miss with his dancing.

I agree. In the highlights he's spending allot of time running east and west rather than north and south.

Saint love the new avatar. The reason why Harvin's dancing worked is because the DB was bracing himself for a hit and was juked instead. That in my opinion is what made Harvin such a great yards after the catch guy.
