You beat me by 1 minute. Decided to make a new thread as I'm sure they'll be updates and this one is likely to get buried.

Wow so Carr went from starter to cut. I think it was the right move considering his performance but that was a heck of a drop. I'm interested to see if the Vikings make any moves over the next day or two, c'mon someone out there has to be better than Pat Brown!

@TomPelissero: Without Rosenfels (34), Carr (29) and Frampton (28) ... 40 of 53 players on #Vikings roster are age 27 or younger.
@TomPelissero: The way I hear it, in all 3 cases, the deciding factor was keeping younger players with more upside. Spielman's goal from Day 1. #Vikings

Why cut Sage and keep Webb? Insanity. Are they really going to try and make a QB out of him?

Pelissero:
Vikings have drafted 20 players over the past two years. Sixteen of them are on the 53, plus Childs/Love on IR. That goes to plan, too.
The two guys that are gone are Guyton and Homan. Guyton will probably be on the practice squad.

Patriots released Kerry Taylor. He was picked up after being cut from the Vikings. Tarvaris Jackson and Tyler Thigpen both made it onto the Bills roster (so far). Also all the Vontaze Burfict fans from pre-draft, he made the Bengals squad, beat out their 4th round pick from last year.

Wow. Kind of a surprise.

MBT must be impressing somebody.

I just don't understand the negative comments about Webb. He has two years in the league, and two starts - a massive upset of the Eagles, and a six point loss to the Lions. Other than that, he is known for bringing the Vikings to the brink of victory in Detroit - coming back from down 14 to a chance to win the game at the goalline with the last play (with the massive facemask penalty against the lions going uncalled), and coming into the Redskins game after successive plays lost us Peterson and Ponder and winning that game, in Washington.

The only other games he had any significant number of throws were two games against the Bears, one in 2010, and one in 2011. In each he threw two interceptions. Note that the difference in the Bears game last year was Ponder's pick 6. The one before that was played in the Gophers stadium, in pretty brutal conditions against the second seed in the NFC.

So if I read the stats correctly, he had a couple bad but not terrible games, one that was okay, and three that were pretty spectacular. I'm not saying he's going to be a great QB. But I wonder what his game would be like if he was being groomed for glory and named the season-long starter, like Ponder (who to me, has shown less top-side potential than Webb, but I agree is probably more likely to succeed).

<Scratches head> It doesn't make that much difference, but I don't know about that one. Maybe the philosophy is that when all else is equal, go with the younger guy?

I do, too. I love Todman's explosiveness, but I think the Vikings are looking for a more conservative 3 yards and a cloud of dust running game.

OTOH, if AD is healthy and retains his speed, the Vikings will still have a breakaway RB.

He's been in the NFL for 3 years. can't throw an accurate ball. can't read defenses. can't go through his progressions. can't make half the throws he's asked too. and hasn't shown any improvement along the way....

I pretty much agree. While I love Webb's overall athleticism, he's sort of a college QB playing in the pro league.

I guess I just don't understand the QB package on the team. Ponder is a real question mark, Webb is an athlete first and foremost, and MBT is unpolished. They're all young, but is this the QB depth this team needs, even if it's rebuilding?

He also cant catch a ball so he is utterly useless in your words. You just acquire natural ability to catch a ball. Some people are great at it others not so great. There is little you can do to make yourself great at catching a ball. There are some athletic corners that could play WR but they couldnt catch a ball if it was tossed to them. What im trying to say is Athletic Ability doesnt equal a great WR.

Which is why they should have kept Sage, even being older. Webb is in a bad place. The only way he does something good, is come into a game, when they team isnt expecting him. They figure him out FAST. Its such a waste I just dont understand it. Think about it, they let Todman go who has shown promise, and kept Webb, again.
