Glad with what we got regardless of what gets picked in those slots.

I didn't mind trading the picks but then I didn't expect any of the LBs or WRs to get to 52. Or to take a giant project.saint33 wrote: Ozzie effing Newsome. Rick is proving to be great, but Ozzie is a god among men
You are right. I meant to write that. But my point of (what I considered to be an intermediate eval point) an end of year look at Patterson's season, is that, regardless of how correct you are in the above paragraph (which, again, I completely agree with), people will be evaluating Patterson and Spielman based on a single rookie season. Coaches and GM's lose jobs based on missing badly on a triple picks in the first round, regardless of how much it was certainly the right thing to do at the time.Mothman wrote: ...and then we'll see how it falls out in subsequent years because it's his career as a Viking that will matter, not what just what he does in 2013. Since we know his game needs development, we also know that his rookie year isn't necessarily going to be indicative of what he will provide to the team over the course of his time on their roster, which could be 4-5 years at a minimum.
My thought is that the chance that four players all fail to be studs (the 2/3/4/7 picks we gave up) is less than the chance that Patterson fails to be a stud. To further explain, any of the four are much less likely to succeed than Patterson. But all four together are probably less likely to all fail than Patterson. I'm just a guy who likes "safety" in numbers (of players). If you swing for the fences all the time, you're going to strike out a lot. if you never swing for them, you're never going to hit a home run. Spielman took a swing at a homer. It's a shot worth taking.

haha, I'm not worried about it, 3rd round pick 7 was way too early for me. I would be okay with our 4th (the later one) at the earliestDemi wrote: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... n-mathieu/
He ended up in a better place. (thank god...for the Vikings sake!)
