I'm decently optimistic about this year, but great draft? Everyone in the league thinks they had a great draft this time of year.

Most of the experts gave them an a- to an a.

I wanted to look back at some of the early predictions, and there were a lot of these types - oldskoolvikingfan was first. Many people were thinking we would be fine if we won 2 of the first 5.oldskoolvikingfan wrote:What is everyone thoughts on how many games we win now that we know when we will be playing each team?

That's the joy of being a fan ... living and dying with em each game regardless of where they stand.John_Viveiros wrote: I wanted to look back at some of the early predictions, and there were a lot of these types - oldskoolvikingfan was first. I have been on an emotional roller coaster this season - what can I say, I'm a fan. But think that it was all so predictable even in July! It's all going just the way many people expected. How come we aren't a lot calmer as it goes down?!?
At this point, they might have to take down Detroit to earn that designation but a win over GB this week would certainly put the Vikes in the conversation.Leafman wrote:That's the joy of being a fan ... living and dying with em each game regardless of where they stand.
Some great calls by some of the guys in this thread so far. I think one reason people were so skeptical of the Vikes' chances to be competitive in the North was the belief that the division would be one of the toughest in the league, and we were the runt of the litter. But none of the teams in the division looks as good as advertised, while the Vikings weak spot (defense) is not a weak spot at all the way its held three of the game's best in Brady, Brees and Ryan in check. Every NFC North team has weaknesses that can be exploited.
If the Vikes can take down the Pack at Lambeau, not only do they need to be considered in the mix for the division, but they might even be considered the favorite.
Detroit finally has it together. As long as Stafford stays away from the dumb turnovers, they will be there at the end for sure.Mothman wrote: At this point, they might have to take down Detroit to earn that designation but a win over GB this week would certainly put the Vikes in the conversation.
I dunno ... without Tulloch, and with Megatron hobbling, that team just isn't the same. The only reason they beat the Jets was because Geno Smith was wearing a Lions jersey, and the Jets are not a good football team. at. all.PurpleMustReign wrote: Detroit finally has it together. We'll begin getting real answers to that question over the next 2 weeks. If the Vikes are going to make a move and compete for the division crown, this game against GB is the place to start, especially with the division-leading Lions on the schedule next (and in Minnesota). A pair of wins over the next two weeks would put the Vikes in the division driver's seat.DKSweets wrote:There isn't any team in our division that looks clearly better. This division is wide open, and I can't help but wonder: why not us?
I agree with your take on being a little more prudent with the optimism after getting back to 500 ball. If we think of this in the long term, I suppose I'll be happy in two weeks with a split in the next two.Mothman wrote: We'll begin getting real answers to that question over the next 2 weeks. Respectfully disagree, the Lions may not completely implode like usual, but I think that they are getting a bit to much hype right now, I dont think they are as good as advertised, and I think they may get punked by the Bills this week.Mothman wrote: At this point, they might have to take down Detroit to earn that designation but a win over GB this week would certainly put the Vikes in the conversation.
The Lions are sitting on top of the division right now and their defense is ranked #1 in the league. If they lose to Buffalo, that will change the picture a bit but right now, they're certainly making a good case for themselves.Purpnation wrote:Respectfully disagree, the Lions may not completely implode like usual, but I think that they are getting a bit to much hype right now, I dont think they are as good as advertised, and I think they may get punked by the Bills this week.
I think if wr beat GB, we become favorites to win the division, or at least come in second.
Agreed, although without Tulloch, I'm not sure that defense will stay in the Top 5. They certainly have benefitted from playing weak offenses (#11, #18, #25 and #28 in yards ... #7, #17, #25 and #28 in scoring), and Atlanta and New Orleans are the only two teams on their schedule that currently rank in the top 14 in offense. Looking VERY forward to hosting them in week 6 to see what they're made of.Mothman wrote: The Lions are sitting on top of the division right now and their defense is ranked #1 in the league.
