To be clear, I tend to agree with you Jim, if he truly is lacking in pass pro ability (again, haven't seen enough of him, in fact very little at all, to know) then I wouldn't be in favor of dropping a dime on him.
Slow and steady wins the race. Measured and methodical is the most effective way to approach free agency, IMO. And being mindful about next year's compensatory picks is a plus.
Mays, Selvie, Schofield, Stevie Johnson, guys like that (a few others I have thought of, but can't recall now) fit the bill.

Cardinals making push for AP?
@Rand_Getlin: A source indicated after Darnell Dockett's release that the #AZCardinals were clearing cap space to make a run at RB Adrian Peterson.
@Rand_Getlin: Would make a lot of sense for the #AZCardinals to sign Peterson. Would take a tremendous amount of weight off of Carson Palmer's shoulders.

I would be down with that. Trade their Peterson (Patrick) for the Vike's Peterson and maybe a draft pick or two.

As for Iupati, unless we have word for AD he's going to be back, I'd much prefer Clint Boling.
Also with the news of Peterson interested in going to the Cards, have to believe its Fitzgerald who has a big push on that as well, him and AD seem to be great friends.

3 years, 7 million - about 3 million guaranteed. Solid job, congrats in order for Spielman and company.

Pretty cheap deal too - he's a valuable rotational guy on the defensive line. You can never have enough pass rushing pieces. Happy about this one, fits the measured approach I hope we take.

Good news on Johnson!
Looks like there is a bidding war with Eagles and Giants on Devin Mccourty

Happy Vikings were able to re-sign Johnson. I thought he did a good job with the snaps he got last year

PFT confirmed the deal.
I am glad the Vikings resigned Johnson. I am glad he got a reasonable deal.

Good news. I hope they can re-sign Berger too. He's a solid backup.

Agreed, I think we should be able to get him back fairly cheap as well. Good to have insurance in case one of the guys on the interior go down with injury - and really, it seems like a virtual certainty that someone will get hurt.

The Vikings have reached out to free-agent safety Taylor Mays, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Mays played for new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer in Cincinnati. He could mix in as a third safety behind Harrison Smith and Robert Blanton if he were to re-unite with Zimmer.
