The Vikings will consider free agent OG Travelle Wharton if they are unable to re-sign free agent OG Charlie Johnson.
At only 33, Wharton hinted at retirement earlier in the month. This could be an indication he has changed his mind. Wharton is a superior talent to Johnson despite being three years older and would provide a needed upgrade at left guard.

Because he is trying to troll the board, as usual.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities reports the Vikings are "still maintaining dialogue" with free agent DT Henry Melton.
Melton visited with the Vikings earlier this week and is also drawing interest from Seattle and Dallas. In Minnesota, Melton would be an upgrade over Sharrif Floyd in Mike Zimmer's scheme opposite Linval Joseph. Melton is five months removed from ACL surgery and expected to be ready for training camp.

So matter-of-fact. I haven't been keeping tabs with what the press has been saying about Floyd. Have they labeled him a bust already?

I got that impression reading that too, but saying a proven commodity is an upgrade over what's going to be a second-year pro shouldn't be a big deal. I welcome more opportunity for Floyd to learn and develop anyway. Pick new brains in Joseph and Melton and from the direction of Zimmer and co.

I had the same reaction. I was a little worried when I heard they were going after Melton to begin with but reading this makes me think there might be something more to it. Is it possible Zimmer sees something in Floyd that gives him concern? Not that Zimmer was calling the shots as a DC last year but the Bengals did pass on Floyd and took Eifert. Of course they did have Atkins...

Maybe it's not that Zimmer is concerned by Floyd, just that he feels he isn't ready to be a key cog in the top tier defense he's trying to build. With that, I like the urgency I sense coming from Zimmer on making the defense better and ultimately pretty darn good real soon. I feel like he told Spielman exactly what he needs in order to do that and Spielman has bought in and their going full throttle and making sure that's achieved.
Feels good.

Rapoport reporting the Seahawks and Melton "are deep in negotiations tonight."

I wish to hell someone would sign Josh Freeman. It would be one less thing to worry about ending up back in Minnesota.

He didn't lose much. It could even be argued he gained something with the full base salary guaranteed. Interesting.
Looks like a deal that works for both parties.

Well said. I really like seeing that effort to just get
better, even if it's at a position where it might appear that they're set.

Hopefully you guys are right and I'm reading too much into it (wouldn't be the first time that happened

). Time will tell I suppose. But whether its just being opportunistic or a deeper concern over Floyd, if Zimmer wants Melton, hopefully Slick Rick can bring him in at a reasonable price.
I have to believe the Vikings can offer more money than Seattle....then again, maybe 'ole Pete is funnelling cash under the table from wealthy Seahawk fans into the pockets of players

Guys keep in mind that blurb about Shariff is commentary from rotoworld which is a fantasy football site. The updates are by early 20's dopey kids who just post player updates as fast as they can. Their analysis is usually very very poor and geared towards fantasy football on the whole. They are good for quick news on players and transactions but they post a lot of baseless opinions that are way off base most of the time. They even have a thread in their forums for stupid #### they say.
