I would hope that if the Vikes trade Harvin that it would be out of the NFC especially the 49ers who the Vikes could be facing in the play-offs.

I'm hoping and even expecting the Vikings to re-sign Harvin.

That said, you might be right about the Niners. But if a trade was to happen, I still believe the Pats would be high on the list of teams that want Harvin. Belichick has expressed his admiration for Harvin's skills since Percy was a Gator. Harvin even said that if the Vikings had passed on him in the draft, he thinks Belichick would have taken him. He bases that on the fact that Belichick visited him numerous times while he was still playing for Florida.

I don't even want to think about Harvin playing for the 49ers. Can you imagine Harvin,Gore and Kapernick in that backfield? Oh lord Jesus, Ain't nobody got time for that

Something I've been thinking about is, would it really be that big of a deal to trade Harvin for a high 2nd rounder? #3 Oak, #6 CLE, #8 BUF could all use him and are ALL in the AFC which is ideal. Clearly Harvin is more valuable than that, however IF we're going to lose him, a 2nd rounder is pretty good compared to the one year left on his contract and I can only imagine he wouldn't be happy about a franchise tag after that.

Second of all is Jarius Wright. Now he's not Harvin, but the kid's got some speed and in pretty limited action made a pretty decent impact and some big plays. He could take over the slot receiver role and again, he's not Harvin, but I'd say the slot receiver would still be a strength on this team!

Since we don't have to pay Harvin, we can sign Bowe or Wallace. But wait, now we have the 35th-40th pick overall in the 2nd round as well and can take another WR. Haven't done a whole lot of research here but looking at the projected second rounders (it might be old), Justin Hunter who has decent size could fit well here. Now we have Wallace and Hunter out wide, Wright in the slot, Rudolph at TE, and Adrian Peterson.

Obviously some question marks there, but there are question marks with Percy too. Personally I'd still really like to keep Harvin BUT if this is our worst case scenario it could be worse!

Unfortunately, Hopkins has a first round grade. He will won't be in the 2nd by the time we pick. Justin Hunter may not be there either.

That's kind of a creepy statement if you take it out of context.

LOL true.

But I think everyone has a few players they watch, or see at the combine they really like. Not a 1st rounder really, but maybe their second pick. And I thought Mallett would be there with our second pick (which he would have-and no reaching for a middle to late second rounder like Ponder) and I think Hunter will be there for our second pick. Maybe trade up for a guard, or good NT or MLB with the first.

Just great.

Percy Harvin - WR - Vikings
According to Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, Percy Harvin is targeting a deal in the range of Calvin Johnson's as opposed to Dwayne Bowe or Vincent Jackson.

Harvin considers himself a "special" player and reportedly wants $16.5 annually, which would put him right behind Megatron ($18.8M average) and ahead of Larry Fitzgerald ($16.06M). Bowe and Jackson, the NFL's third and fourth highest-paid wideouts, collect $11.2M and $11.1M per year, respectively. Per Cole, Harvin "threatened to walk out on the team" last offseason after hearing the Patriots gave Aaron Hernandez a contract extension after only two NFL seasons. "[The Vikings are] in a tough spot," one source told Cole. "If you don't take some aggressive action, this could get really bad." Harvin seems 50:50 to be a Viking in 2013.

LOL! Then he's delusional.
The Vikings would be insane to pay Harvin that kind of money based on his production as a pro to this point. He's simply not worth it. I hope that report isn't accurate but if it is, I hope he's willing to accept an incentive-laden deal because that's the only way any team is going to give him "Megatron money".

I'm pretty sure Cole is the reporter who wrote that Harvin demanded to be traded last year. If I'm not mistaken, that report was never confirmed. Here's a link to his new article about Harvin's situation, the source of the info above:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--mike- ... 59743.html
While the Vikings and Harvin's agent, Joel Segal, have yet to exchange contract proposals, it's believed that Harvin wants money closer to what Calvin Johnson got from Detroit in 2012 (eight years, $132 million) than to Jackson or Bowe. That's an average of $16.5 million per year compared to a little more than $11 million for Jackson and Bowe. As one person put it about Harvin, he considers himself a "special" player and executives around the league have fed that attitude by telling people close to him how difficult it is to cover Harvin.
It sounds like we're still firmly in the realm of rumor and speculation, although for all I know, Cole might be getting his info straight from Segal.

This paired with the reports that the Vikings are supposedly going to make a hard run at Wallace seems to be getting beyond just empty speculation in order to boost offseason readership/viewership to me. This report (that Harvin wants Megatron type money) would not surprise me terribly.

It wouldn't surprise me either and I wasn't suggesting it's just empty speculation, merely that at this time of year reports like Cole's shouldn't just be accepted at face value. Agents are putting info out there to try to get the best deals for their clients and it's tough to get a read on what's good, accurate information and what isn't. I won't be surprised at all if Harvin wants to be paid like one of the top 2-3 WRs in the league or if the Vikings make a run at Wallace and end up trading Harvin for what they can get (which, if his contract demands are that high, may not be much). I suspect there's some truth in Cole's post. He probably isn't just posting empty speculation but I also question the accuracy of what he wrote because the closest he gets to mentioning a source is "it's believed that Harvin wants money closer to what Calvin Johnson got from Detroit". He doesn't even give us a "source close to the situation" or a "league source". "It's believed" isn't much to hang your hat on... believed by whom?
