This offseason, the Broncos decided it was easier for them to win with the 2000 Ravens/1985 Bears and of course 2015 Broncos style of approach.
So while Brock Osweiller got paid 18M a year to play elsewhere, the Broncos chose to pay Von Miller like a QB.
Here are a few notable overpaid contracts (in my opinion)
.
Ponder is getting paid. I don't know how much but for him to be paid at all is proof positive of an overpaying market.

Arm strength is not just about how far you can throw the football, it's also about how quickly you can make the pass, the velocity of the throw is very important. Slow passes give the secondary more time to react.

I agree here...In fact, arm strength on 9 routes is extremely overrated in my opinion. I don't think how far you can throw a football matters for much of anything -- especially without accuracy. A much better gauge of arm strength in the NFL is more about those 10-15 yard out routes from the opposite hash and such. You can still get away with average arm strength in the NFL though, if you have above average accuracy/anticipatory skills. The best example of that in which we've seen most recently is Chad Pennington. Quite possibly the dullest arm in NFL history, but one of the most accurate ever and a lots of different nuances about his game that made up for lack of arm strength (If anyone wants to teach their son about selling a PA and carrying out fakes and what not...Throw on film of Pennington. One of the best I've seen in that regard).

Backup QB is one of the best jobs on the planet. Get paid $ millions a year to mostly not get hit, work out, run the scout team, and maybe play 50-100 downs in a game setting. Yes please.

Sorry for the MIA, I was on vacation in DC.
Cliff got it right, I was convolutedly saying that essentially anything over 50 yards that hits a receiver in stride is a NFL caliber arm. And the concern that we didn't get someone with a stronger arm is a fairly minor complaint in the grand scheme of things. He has shown he has the requisite arm strength to succeed and trying to argue it isn't requires a simplification of the multiple skills a QB needs and cherry picking of stats all due to the cool but unnecessary desire to watch a QB throw balls into the Endzone from their own 20 yard line.
Do I think he needed to improve after last years? Yes. Mainly in his long ball? Yes. Has he shown encouraging signs? Yes. Is the Jury still out? Yes.
I wasn't trying to call out anyone or directly counter anyone. I just felt that any discussion about "suspect" arm strength by QB comparisons is pointless &!@$ measuring when field position and math can be used to show exactly how much field a pass can cover without bringing Brady or Rodgers arm strength for comparison.

Also, QB is still the most important position in football and the market reflects it. Just like Kalil, when it comes time to pay him, he will get paid assume he is worth keeping vs. other alternatives.
Spot on. QB role is unrivaled in importance.

Thanks for the clarification. I hope you had a nice vacation!
