Jim of course we have the worst downfield passing game, we also have the most pressured QB. I'm not a Teddy Apologist, but I do not think it is fair to pin the lack of deep passing production entirely on him when the protection is so woefully bad.
I'd like to see how many deep passes they even call vs. the rest of the league, I bet our quantity of stretch plays is much lower than the rest of the league because of the protection issue.
Teddy is also going to have low numbers when AP puts up 200 yards and we play with a lead for almost the whole game.

The problem has many components. Its a work in progress. Personally, I do believe they will get it sorted.IrishViking wrote:
But that has nothing to to with his inability to get the ball there. I am simply stating that Teddy, physically can. The problem doesn't lie with Teddy's arm.

His arm strength appears adequate by NFL standards so, I wouldn't say that's a big problem. I think I've seen see him overthrow players more than he under-throws them.IrishViking wrote:But that has nothing to to with his inability to get the ball there. That to me is the big problem. I almost feel like he doesn't trust his receivers enough on those throws. He has to put it where they can get it and trust that his receiver will break up any potential interception.

well, if you dont have a real strong arm when you DO need to put it way down field you tend to overthrow, your mechanics break down if you need to fling it with every ounce of strength you have. He CAN throw for distance but I have yet to see much to prove that he can do it accurately. Of course, if he never tries, we will never know. I guess I must say that none of this can really get worked out till we have a real OL. I just hope that happens while AP is still in his prime and Teddy hasnt been permanently damaged. I keep thinking of Culpepper and how everything went south with his knee injury. But HEY.....we are in First Place.....woo hoo....enjoy the moments.

I completely agree. I feel like Oline is our only glaring need right now.

I still say the overthrows are from inaccuracy since Teddy had the same issues with Louisville in college ball. Somehow long throws get away from him and sail. Oftentimes that kind of problem is correctable over time, which keeps me hopeful that Bridgewater can overcome it.IrishViking wrote: That to me is the big problem. The Vikings really need to complete some of these long passes. And I think they need to get some of the other swift WRs involved in running go routes, including Patterson and Wright.

You're not alone in that assessment but I think it's overly generous. I think Bridgewater just isn't making accurate throws on a lot of those passes. As Craig said, he had the same issue in college.IrishViking wrote:That to me is the big problem. I almost feel like he doesn't trust his receivers enough on those throws.
