I struggle to see any reason other than some trivial personal beef Goodell has with Peterson preventing the reinstatement. This whole thing has become so bizarre to me.

According to the written procedure in the agreed upon CBA and the precedent of the Rice reversal, Goodell has over stepped his bounds. The fact that they would still not relent after this decision and continue to be so willfully obtuse in this matter is really weird....except for taking brazen male ego into account.


The way they have handled this helps no one whatsoever as far as I can tell. It certainly messes with the Vikings ability to plan their future by not being allowed to talk with him. Why are the Vikings being punished indirectly in this and saying so little or nothing at all to that effect?


Also, I read the article about Warrens promotion, whenever it was, and in it he claimed to have hugged Peterson at his last hearing and gave a tone that he felt things were all good between them. Does anyone else remember reading that?

Me too, man. The guy raked in $35 mill last year as CEO of a nonprofit and yet he claims some kind of moral high ground based upon the moral principles of profit.

If I'm the Wylfs, I'm communicating with other owners about this. Where is the oversight?

I've read that the NFL is concerned it may set some kind of bad precedent (Hardy is filing for immediate reinstatement, for example). Sounds like the league doesn't want to come off as just rolling over on this. I think they're arguing Doty doesn't have the authority to re-instate Peterson (though I may be off on that).

Yes, but while Warren might be all peachy (and why wouldn't he be with a new promotion), there's no saying that Peterson hugged him back or didn't have choice words for him if they did embrace. Peterson could still feel betrayed by it all and it's not something a hug and public statement by someone in the organization that may have helped keep him on the sidelines can satisfy.

Totally true...which is why they would be well served to just talk through all the speculation and clear the air....regardless of where AD winds up.

But I get what you say about a precedent the other way....just seems like they've already done that to themselves between Rice and AD, while the larger precedent, IMO, remains the leagues willingness to willfully contradict the CBA while cherry picking biased arbitrators. They appear anything but soft to me. Slippery is more the case.

I fear I'm just stating the obvious for this neck of the woods .

My main frustration is the way this works to hamper the Vikings freedom regarding the draft and Free Agency.

Judging by how long every step if this Long soap opera has taken, I don't see another hearing taking place before April 15th. If I were in the front office I would sit down with AP and see where he is at. If he wants to play for us great, if not his agent can start working trade offers. If there is not a offer that satisfies the vikings then say too bad, you are playing for us and helping us win a superbowl (and earn your 12.5 mil). Maybe take scherff or La'El in the first round to beef up the run blocking. Make him happy.
