Kindly show me an example of any support for Ponder and/or Frazier that I made in that post or anywhere for that matter. I will gladly take my medicine if you can produce such a thing. You apparently are struggling with understanding my previous post, that's okay. I will slow it down for you. Neither Frazier nor Ponder have anything to do with my optimism. I would be a fool to have been optimistic about those two. I am optimistic about the current direction of this team. We are no longer coached by Leslie Frazier and Ponder is out of the picture. Hence, my optimism. As far as the pessimistic fans, I was not speaking to those who were pessimistic about Frazier and/or Ponder. I am speaking to those who are down on the current direction of the team - the future of the current group of decision makers. I have no idea if you are one of those 'fans' or not. Nothing in my post referred to Frazier or Ponder - I'm wondering where you got that from?

With Cassel leaving and Freeman possibly testing the FA as well, I don't think the Vikings will be looking to get rid of Ponder anymore.

I've stated this previously but it's worth repeating here. Ponder is the "poster boy" for the failures of this team over the last couple of years.

Even though he was pretty good in the 2012 season finale against GB, the team pretty much won the rest of that stretch of late-season games with little help from him. Adrian was super human and Ponder just didn't screw it up too much.

Last year he was a total train wreck. As he was for the vast majority of his time here. There should be no question with him any longer. HE CAN'T PLAY!!! End of story. End of Ponder's time with the Vikings.

If this new regime wants to get off on the right foot - with the fan base if nothing else - they have to cut ties with this guy. MOVE ON!!! I don't care if they don't have any other QB on the roster.

in related news, I'm looking to trade my $45,000 salary for somewhere in the ballpark of $345,000 salary. so I'm just gonna go ahead and do that...

If you're okay with him as the backup, that means you're okay with him as the starter. In the league today, it's becoming more rule than exception that the backup makes a few starts at some point during the season. What if they keep Ponder as the "backup" and the starter - whoever that is - gets a concussion and misses a few weeks. Then we're faced with Ponder starting again. He HAS TO GO!!!

The only time T.J. was fine as the backup is when the Vikings had Favre and you knew he'd never see the field.

Why such an extreme position on this? I get that you don't like Ponder but It's not like you haven't seen that he can make plays and help the team win at times. He's done it and if called upon to do it as a backup, there's no reason to believe he couldn't do it again. There's also no reason to believe he wouldn't come off the bench and stink, since he's plenty of that too. My point is that most backup QBs in the NFL aren't players you can count on to come off the bench and play excellent football. That's why they end up as backups. However, a backup QB needs to be good enough for the team to compete and have a chance to win and since Ponder can clearly do at least that much, it wouldn't be the end of the world if he remained with the team one more year. Heck, he wouldn't even have to be the primary backup! The team could certainly do worse than having him as their #3 QB.

The Vikes have a new coaching staff in place. Maybe that staff can help Ponder correct some issues in his game and raise his level of play. The idea that he can't play at all is just... well, extreme. There are times where he's played well. It's his ability to do so consistently, and his struggle to process what he's seeing on the field quickly and react accordingly, that are his biggest issues. Those aren't issues that can never be improved upon or corrected. I'm not saying the Vikes should hold out any hope that he can be their long term answer at QB but right now he's signed, he's inexpensive, he has experience and he's capable of playing well enough for the team to win. I don't care if they keep him, trade him or release him but considering their overall situation at QB, keeping him as the #2 or #3 QB wouldn't exactly be a crazy move. He could be their best #3 QB in years!

Worst case he has to come in a few games if the starter goes down and for as bad as Ponder is lets not act like he's never had a good game in his career.

If the starter goes down, you want Ponder to start? Really? There are plenty of better QBs than Ponder. Including all three backup QBs in the NFC North. And a half dozen or more free agents. Just what you want in a backup, a wildly inconsistent head case who can barely get the job done when he's give every first team snap for entire years!

Can't believe there are still Ponder apologists after his forced number of starts to see if he had it or not. We can find free agents, or any number of draft picks better than the guy. Who we could sign for a fraction of the cost. But let's pay him 2.7M to sit on the bench and blow games if he's ever called upon.

I can't believe there is this much debate of whether the guy should be allowed to hold a clipboard and run a scout team.

Which is being fueled by ex-Ponder apologists that still won't just give up on the guy.

The problem is at some point he might have to play a game, and fully prepared on his A game he wasn't that good. And some people want him coming in on a week or less notice and filling in? If we need someone to win a game or two while our starter is out, I'll take any number of veteran QBs over Ponder.

As bad as Ponder is he is at least as good as most of them and better than unemployed scrubs like Rosenfels, Vince Young and Tebow that people love to bring up so often.

So, they are "unemployed scrubs". And Ponder is a solid backup. Got it. (Oh, he's making like 2.7M next year too. You could probably get any of them for veteran minimum of about 2 million less than that...)

Ponder is a scrub. Who should be unemployed...

I bet 0 teams are interested in a QB who is skittish and can only hit his first read.
