Tarkington
Capp
Kramer
All the rest don't qualify. Culpepper is close but never had two good years in a row. Moon was good but was never a winner and played with no passion

Really interesting to see all the love for TK here. I was young when he was our QB so he's kind of an icon in my head, but I also have the memory of my dad telling me that he met him after one of the games at the met and that he was three sheets to the wind already. Did Kramer have a well-documented drinking problem? Did it hinder his career? I remember Wade Wilson a little better than 2 minute Tommy.

Edit to add: I watched a video from the last game at the Met that might be of interest here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESMsnGJmzh0
Man did that make me nostalgic! I love the graphics, the commercials and the way that the crowd is ripping out seats and other parts of the Met, knowing it will be worth something! Hilarious! Two minute Tommy ALMOST got it done in their last game there…
Yeah, he did have an alcohol issue I believe. I said "off field problems" and left it at that because I don't know what was really going on. Didn't have all the media coverage we have now but still heard that he liked the bars.

You still gotta like Tommy. I remember my brother and I went to get his autograph once. My brother wore a Giants shirt. He just happened to be wearing it that day when the opportunity came up to get the autograph. When we got up there Kramer said "nice shirt" and something to the effect of how he shouldn't sign anything for him, and everyone had a good chuckle.

I don't know if you're trying to be funny there or not. You spelled Kapp wrong too. But I used to hate to hear people call him Tar-KING-ton. Only thing worse was when Jonny Unitas would do color on Viking games and constantly call him, "Franny!"

And how do you know what kind of passion Moon had?? Just because he didn't jump around like Favre doesn't mean he had no passion.

Favre was like a kid out there!

THANKS MOTHMAN!! There must be a fair amount of young fans on this website offering their opinions. AND.. They are totally entitled to do so. You nailed it. To place anyone above Tarkenton at this point in time is just wrong.
1, Tarkenton
2. Kramer
3. Culpepper
4. Gypsies ( Favre, Moon, Mcmahon, George, Gannon, Johnson, Wilson, Cunningham, etc.) all had some memorable games.
I realize many fans are too young to have seen Fran play, so to pick their favorites makes sense to me.. 2 1/2 franchise quarterbacks in 52 years is why this organization hasn't made a super bowl since 1977.
At least they beat Washington last night. Did my Giants a big favor as well.
Looks like I'm leaning to Ponder again.. AND YOU?

I think Ponder might be their best option for the rest of this season when he's healthy but they definitely need to go out after the season and find that 3rd franchise QB because he's not in the roster right now.

By the way, I'm assuming Culpepper is the 1/2 in your "2 1/2 franchise quarterbacks in 52 years", correct?

I think Jim's list is near-perfect. Favre is not a Vikings QB, in my mind. Neither are any of the other stop-gap QBs. Of the guys Jim listed... the top 4 are all bona fide Vikings QBs. I would put Brad Johnson or Wade Wilson at #5, to be consistent.

As a matter of fact, I almost did! Instead, I decided I should acknowledge a few of the veteran stopgaps, particularly Cunningham, who delivered a spectacular 1998 season on one of the best Vikes teams of all time and also engineered a memorable come-from-behind playoff victory against the Giants in the 1997 postseason.

I'm glad you liked my list. :)

If you're going to go with the best QB to wear a Viking uni and not take into account how long they were here; this one is easy as well. He had the best single season ever for a Viking QB.
Um... what?

There are a few great seasons by Vikings QBs that are better.

Daunte Culpepper probably had the best season statistically for a Vikings QB in 2004:

69.2% Comp (1st), 4717 yds (1st), 39 TDs (1st), 8.6 Yards/Att (2nd), 110.9 passer rating (1st)

Cunningham was certainly brilliant! And Moon put up some amazing numbers when he was with the Vikings. Plus, he was 38 years old when he did it! Amazing!
