Brent Grimes - DB - Falcons

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution wonders if impending free agent CB Brent Grimes still fits in the Falcons' secondary plans.

Grimes played in just one game this past season before tearing his Achilles' tendon. He was slapped with the franchise tag last offseason after grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 corner in the league behind Darrelle Revis. With the emergence of Robert McClain as the nickel back in Atlanta and money tied up in Asante Samuel and Dunta Robinson, Grimes may find more money on the open market.

One NFL general manager said the interest in Darrelle Revis is "one of the biggest potential trade markets for a player ever."

"There's a Revis gold rush forming," said one general manager. According to CBS' Mike Freeman, the Jets are asking for a first- and second-round pick in exchange for Revis, which certainly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility if he were healthy, but that's a high price for a guy coming off a torn ACL. Teams that have been linked to Revis are the Patriots, Broncos, 49ers, Bills, Seahawks, and Packers, according to Freeman. You can rule out a trade with the division rival Patriots and Bills.

Sean Smith - DB - Dolphins

The Miami Herald confirms that CB Sean Smith is likely to reach free agency without a deal in place with the Dolphins.

Smith and his agent are using Jason McCourty's six-year, $43 million contract as a baseline in negotiations, and plugged-in columnist Armando Salguero considers that too pricey even for the cap-rich Dolphins. Per Salguero, the Fins view Smith as more of a "good player" as opposed to a "game changer or playmaker."

A statement like that will scare off more suitors than it will attract. It's not like Revis isn't already on every GM's radar just by knowing that the Jets are shopping him around. Nobody wants to get into a bidding war with a dozen other teams.

Perhaps, but you have to figure that in most cases the NFL GM's will all share your attitude. The reality is this market is limited, only 32 players. So yes, you might have one or two wild cards like WSH, but they all still have to play by the same rules. On the flip side, with such a small "club" of buyers, the selling GM only needs to get one suitor ot overpay to be successful. In that respect, I suspect the comments are intended to help the GM find that one sucker.

Spielman pulled a similar feat last year in the draft. Is there any doubt he pulled a snake oil job on Cleveland last year?

This would be a guy I would love to have here. He would fit this defense perfectly and he is a very good corner.

Yet another guy I would love to have on the team. However, hearing this report, I would probably be a little hesitant to get involved for his services.

jets will probably let cromartie go and not revis. would rather see the vikings pick up wes welker or santonio holmes.

Holmes? Yes. Welker? No. We have Harvin. Holmes will provide us with an outside reciever who is built big and has good hands. I think Harvin gets resigned so we would definitely not need anyone like welker. But if Harvin does leave I think we should go for someone like Welker.

I don't think Christian's ever going to be a gunslinger and therefore the addition of Welker, a player that thrives on YAC, will ensure that Ponder isn't have to force throws and the receiver does the work in moving the chains. As for Percy, I think the whole situation has become too much, I can't see him suiting up in purple again next season.

As for protection, I think the line played fantastically on the whole last season. Kalil's a perennial Pro Bowler, Sullivan soon to be and I feel that Loadholt is consistent enough to lock down in Free Agency. Why ruin the current O-Line rapport?

Ponder's still young and learning, I like to remain positive and feel that with established surrounding pieces, he will only improve further.

I think even the hit to chemistry they'd take would be more then made up for in ability if we replaced both of our guards.

According to La Canfora's sources, the Steelers are not planning on franchising Wallace, and they do not anticipate meeting his aforementioned salary demands, even though it's expected that other teams will value him at that rate. Wallace has certainly played his last down for the Steelers.

Wallace, 26, will be aiming for what Vincent Jackson got from the Bucs last offseason -- five years, $55.55 million with $26 million guaranteed.
