It'd be a different atmosphere than Frazier, that's for sure. Hopefully he'd be more like Bud Grant than Mike Singletary.

I am actually more interested in the coordinators a new head coach hires. Will Musgrave be retained? I am certain Williams will not. What philosophy will we see? Aggressive? If the Vikings do go with Zimmer, who is defense-minded, who does he bring in as OC?

This may have huge bearing if the Vikings hire Zimmer and their/his ability to hire Jackson as OC. The Bengals are expected to promote Jackson to OC. I would think unless he turns down the promotion he'd be unable to depart without permission from the Bengals? I'm a little fuzzy on this, though.

He wouldn't turn it down unless he had a chance to be HC someehere. And I doubt that happens.

Bengals DC Mike Zimmer has reportedly emerged as the favorite for the Vikings' head-coaching vacancy.

Marvin Lewis could be losing both his coordinators, as Jay Gruden was hired by the Redskins Thursday. The abrasive and fiery Zimmer's style would be in stark contrast to mild-mannered, player-friendly coach Leslie Frazier. It's a bit surprising the Vikings wouldn't favor an offensive mind, but Zimmer would make a fine choice. He's been the Bengals' defensive coordinator since 2008, consistently getting the most out of UDFA's and leading his unit to a No. 3 ranking this year despite season-ending injuries to Geno Atkins and Leon Hall.

Yahoo is reporting that he will be the new head coach of the Redskins.

I'm saying he may turn it down if he wants (is able to?) to follow Zimmer to Minnesota to be our OC instead of the OC in Cincy.

If true, I don't find it surprising at all that the Vikings wouldn't favor an offensive-minded HC. I think the smart approach when looking for a head coach is to find the person you believe will be the best head coach, not the coach who is best-suited to fix one aspect of the team or another. He can (and hopefully will) hire good offensive and defensive minds to assist him but he needs to be the right person to oversee the whole team.

For what it's worth (I hope not much), Sid Hartman (in today's strib) doesn't think we'll be able to land any of the best candidates and we'll have to go for Bevell:

Spielman will have his work cut out for him to persuade a talented coach to accept the job, but if the team decides to wait until Seattle finishes its season, he can hire Darrell Bevell, the former Vikings offensive coordinator who is familiar with all the Vikings’ negatives and can devise ways to correct them.

#Vikings will interview almost 10, then whittle their list to 3 finalists. My understanding is #Bengals DC Mike Zimmer will be 1 of then
