They had some serious coaching/locker room issues last year but they've brought in an experienced, accomplished coaching staff and I think it's likely to make a big difference. I don't expect a winning season but I don't expect them to be a bottom feeder. I'm thinking they'll have a season similar to the one the Vikes had last year.
I'll keep an eye on him!
I like John Fox, but I think they finish between 30-32 defensively. Can their offense be good enough to keep them in games, especially if teams tend to get a lead on them? that doesn't sound like the recipe for Jay Cutler to succeed IMO.

Also known as Zimmer's version of, "I'm just here so I won't get fined."

Loved that!

Also, thanks to the poster who gave the heads up on the NFLN airing of the TB game. I also found the OAK game, though it appears to not be live. I've set my DVR to record both.

I need more coffee. I'm sitting here at work thinking, "why are we calling it the Teddy Bridgewater game?"

Going to the game Saturday, fellas. Only preseason, but still excited.

Jim, expecting a good report from Da Bears game as well.

Training Camp Master Thread

Has anybody seen reports saying if the team practiced as poorly as Zim says?

I hate to bring this up, but I immediately wondered if this wasn't a case of Zim being in a bad frame of mind and the team took the brunt of his bad week.

I haven't read anything saying one way or the other, I'm just questioning.

From the Twitter reports there were some issues, particularly on defense. I also think it was a case of it being the last day. I like that there's no slacking allowed and Zimmer immediately picked up on it and dealt with it. Camp as a whole seemed like it went well but this wasn't the way to end it, clearly.

Zimmer goes Mike Yeo today. Contrived outrage. It's right there in the coach's handbook.
If you follow the Minnesota Wild you'll know what he's talking about.

Certainly could be a factor...all the hype and praise this team is getting, Zimmer maybe wanted to put these guys in check. Of course that doesn't mean they didn't give him reason.

You know given the situation.. he knew his dad could pass and came back and coached a preseason game and wanted to finish camp.

If I had sacrificed the time, as Zimmer has and saw the players not really going for it, on the last day, I would be pissed as well.

The Vikings brass really put in the time and we are starting to get great talent late in the draft.. Pruitt and Diggs..

Zimmer was right Good Teams self motivate and keep trying to get better..

Good post, Jackal. I agree. Death to a family member is one hell of a reminder that time is NOT to be wasted.

It was fun! I didn't get a chance to post yesterday but I definitely had a good time. It was a beautiful night to watch a football game and for a preseason game, it was surprisingly entertaining. To my surprise, I even saw Josh Freeman play! I didn't know he had signed with the Dolphins. He played late in the game and, frankly, looked terrible. What the heck happened to that guy?

Anyway, regarding the game: Vikings28, Goldman looked pretty good. He has a nice burst off the line. I didn't see him do anything spectacular but he looked solid on the inside.

Jared Allen looked pretty good at LB. He almost managed a to make an interception on a pass he tipped. He's rushing from pretty far outside in the 3-4, which is different for him and may take some adjustment. He had to cover a back on a wheel route at one point and he did a very nice job with that. It looked to me like that back was Tannehill's intended target and he had to move off the back because Allen had him covered.

Overall, the Bears starters had a pretty rough night. They weren't out there long but the offense went 3 and out on the first possession (they struggled with Miami's new defensive line—and Suh in particular— although I imagine a lot of teams will have that problem). Both starting WRs were sitting so that probably didn't help.

After that first possession, the Bears o-line became more assertive and did okay. Their starting defense allowed Miami to take the opening possession for a long TD drive. They made some good plays on that drive but couldn't get a stop. They're probably still adjusting to a new scheme and some new teammates but it definitely wasn't pretty.

The Bears backups played well. Clausen had a solid night at QB. LB Sam Acho was a standout on defense. There were a lot of new faces. Based on this game (which isn't much of a basis), the Bears may have some real depth. I don't know if they have enough starting-caliber talent though.

Anyway, it was a fun evening and there were some pretty spectacular turnovers and an exciting TD run so for a preseason game, it was entertaining. Plus, the halftime show was a blast: dogs doing impressive tricks and catching frisbees! :) One dog walked on his front paws alone... I've never seen that trick before.
