Start the bulldozers!!!
Are they going to begin excavating the parking lot on the east side of the stadium before the season begins, or wait until after the season ends?

Actually that was just the vote to vote.
The vote on the bill itself, however, did prevail 36-29.

Re: Stadium thread
I never really followed the stadium situation closely because I figured in the end, it would get done one way or the other. However, as we came down to the wire, I really started having my doubts. I'm glad it all worked out in the end and the Vikings will remain where they rightfully belong.

Re: Stadium thread
I'm pretty sure that I saw a couple weeks ago (it's probably earlier in this thread) that Rybak and 7 of the 13 council members signed some kind of memorandum saying they would pass the stadium ordinance if the state did so that there wouldn't be a question about that.mansquatch wrote:The Council has to vote within 30d after it is passed. That is widely considered a formaility due to all the money it will bring in/keep in the city.
Re: Stadium thread
It sounded like there is some other site prep stuff they can get started on before the end of the season. Some utilities needed to be moved, etc. Would be surprised if they do tear up the lot as well and do what they can.Eli wrote:Start the bulldozers!!!

Re: Stadium thread
Just saw the news on the Strib website! Woo hoo. I was worried the legislature would once again eff it up and delay again and we'd lose yet ANOTHER sports franchise.

Zygi Wilf Saves Franchise
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_ ... -franchiseI can't control how you view Wilf and his group of out-of-town investors. But, Vikings fans, you guys lucked out. This could have been ugly and might easily have ended differently. Zygi Wilf made sure it didn't.

This is correct. One very fine point. 7 of 13 Council members agreed. One of the 7 sided with the opposing 6 to ask the Charter Commission itself for their opinion on whether the referendum can be sidestepped by the manner done in the bill. The mayor is relying on an unwritten opinion from the City Attorney that no referendum is triggered by the language in the bill. If the Charter Commission comes out and says they feel the referendum is needed, that one Council member could theoretically change his vote.glg wrote: I'm pretty sure that I saw a couple weeks ago (it's probably earlier in this thread) that Rybak and 7 of the 13 council members signed some kind of memorandum saying they would pass the stadium ordinance if the state did so that there wouldn't be a question about that.

Could have been uglier than the worst seasons back to back in team history? His all in philosophy of writing blank checks got him his stadium, and a team in the dumps. Let's hope his faith in his front office and coaches pans out or we're not going to have a team worth fielding in the new stadium in 4 years!dead_poet wrote:Zygi Wilf Saves Franchise

(Let's not forget my favorite martian, Mark Dayton. For pushing this thing from day one to make sure it got done, no matter where it was or what it'd take.)
