So do I. I like the Vikings approach to developing Patterson. I also like having a head coach that enjoys working with players to bring out their potential.

I agree. Again, I'm happy with Zimmer's approach. He sees accountability on Patterson's part and from the team as well.

So ... turns out Patterson never worked out with the WR that Zimmer got him in touch with:
He didn’t feel it was necessary to work out with the mystery former NFL wide receiver that coach Mike Zimmer set him up with, though he said he did chat with him at the Super Bowl and that Zimmer seemed cool with that.

Zimmer goes to the effort of getting a former WR to agree to work with him on his route running and Patterson declines to pursue it.

Why would he do that?

None of this will matter if he lights it up this year. If he doesn't ... well ... that's another story.

Flash has everything he needs to go out and be a dangerous WR, talent, good QB, Great RB, fast complimentary WRs, now he just needs to do it.

Even if he busts at the WR position (which unfortunately I think he will though I am still hoping I'm wrong), he is still a great KR and gadget player.

If this is the case, does it mean we gave up WAY too much to get him? Absolutely. But he still has value to this team in my humble opinion.
I agree. Plus if Patterson scores 9 TDs again, I don't care if he's a KR and gadget player. He can help the team by being a big play machine.

I had the feeling earlier that Patterson's big work project to become a real NFL wide out, didn't seem right...

Zimmer probably used a former player he coached and pulled, a favor to help Patterson. If Patterson isn't a crisp
route runner by the end of camp, I really don't want him on the team. He has had three years to learn his trade now.
My instincts are telling me there we be marginal improvement at best.

Marginal is all that will be needed. It's the nuances, not the entire technique, that Patterson lacked. He doesn't lack skill.

As Zimmer said, it's a two-way street because both Patterson and the offensive scheming needs to improve for CP to flourish. Patterson doesn't need to run routes like Cris Carter. He needs to be explosive doing the things that he already does well. With AD coming back (which will give CP more single coverage), Teddy improving, and better scheming and opportunities for CP, I see Patterson being a boost for the offense.

Johnson didnt have a hard time figuring things out, new team, new coach, new QB. And, everyone playing is hurt in some way during the season.

We spent too much on our draft picks for a glorified KR. I think a lot of it is in his head, and he will end up like Twill. I hope not, but eventually we are going to have to see what our other WR's have. CP has been given a lot of time if he doesnt pan out this year. Sure hope they are training him to try the slot.

Johnson had already spent a year in the same system.

It just frustrates me that he didn't work with that wide out this off season.

If Zimmer took the time to set it up, he obviously thought he needed it ...

It shows Patterson's immaturity. Thinking you know more then your HC, after a pretty bad season.

I knew two guys very well that played college and semi pro football.. they were both very good guys, and worked for many
years, trying to get to the pro's.

It killed them, to never reach their goals...These guys would have done anything, to have the chances Patterson does.
Its been three years in the league. Time will tell, if he has learned a route tree, or not... My guess, is he hasn't ....That
just bugs me as a fan, and a person.

Patterson has had 2 years in the league. Training camp for his third season just started this weekend.

I think we'd all do well to remember that Patterson reportedly worked very hard this offseason and in reference to those efforts, Zimmer said he was proud of Patterson. I understand that people are disappointed CP didn't work with the undisclosed former player Zimmer recommended to him but that doesn't mean he didn't put in a good, sincere, productive effort to get better. We shouldn't draw too many assumptions from a paucity of information. ALL we have is "He didn’t feel it was necessary to work out with the mystery former NFL wide receiver that coach Mike Zimmer set him up with, though he said he did chat with him at the Super Bowl and that Zimmer seemed cool with that". That's not much from which to draw conclusions. For example, for all we know, Patterson had already made arrangements to work with "hell's trainer" Frank Mastriciano before he met with the mysterious former player at the Super Bowl and when the latter heard about those arrangements, he might told Patterson he didn't think it was necessary to work with both men.

If Zimmer is actually "cool" with how things worked out, I see little reason for us to be overly critical about it. Patterson sounds like a young man who is quite sincerely trying to make the most of the opportunity he's been given.

Very well said, Jim, and I agree wholeheartedly. Zimmer is much closer to the situation than any of us are and he seems pleased with Patterson's work ethic and progress. Even so, there are some that simply don't want to believe Zimmer's words or in Patterson's efforts. I'm not sure why that is. After all, it's best for the team as a whole if Patterson can utilize his impressive skill-set successfully.

So, people jump to conclusions about Adrian Peterson, and no one, other than a very small handful of people, were right about any of that. Now, people clearly haven't learned anything about reporting and what is actually going on, and overreactions aplenty with Patterson.
