You'd rather become a Packers fan? :nono: That's worse than your previous suggestion. And here I thought it couldn't get much sicker than that. Wrong.

Sorry. Cabin Fever Bad. About to get an injection for that but I have to drive a few days to get it, and then you'll miss me cuz football will be the last thing on my mind. :D

It's an easy mistake to make. :)
But I would feel much better if they cut ties with him. I think he is beyond reclamation for the Vikings and needs a new home. There is something to be said for physically getting away from the place where your career floundered.
I agree, especially when there's an irrational degree of hatred for you in that place. It's not a healthy situation. I actually hope the Vikes release him and he does well elsewhere.

He will stay. At least through this year. If nothing else he is probably a bit better then a lot of backup QB's in the league. Green Bay went through 3 before they got Flynn back. And I can assure you, Flynn will be the back up in Green Bay this year.

I think Ponder is the cheaper option He makes less money then Cassel & because of that He has the best chances of staying. Cassel money can be put to better use like signing a free agent CB or strong safety.

Ponder is set to make 2.7M. Cassel 3.7. I think the 1M is worth it...
We could always not sign Desmond Bishop again to pay the difference.

If Cassel is gone and we don't get someone better, we all need to commit hara-kiri in our bathtubs.
Well there is that I suppose.

Of all of the other QB needy teams, are we (probably) not the closest to being a playoff contender with the addition of steady QB play?

If so, then why would Cassel "want" to go anywhere else (unless someone else is willing to pay more for him)?
I think the Texans can make a bounce back similar to what the Colts did. The talent is there (albeit not as much as in seasons past) the problem is can they all stay healthy.

Theres no denying that Ponder is the worse of the two like mrc44 said above. & I agree Cassel might be worth keeping but then the Vikes need to deal with what is owed to Ponder that is still under contract they could end up losing 2.7M. By keeping cassel & letting Ponder go & keeping Cassel It could end up costing the Vikes 6.4M By letting Cassel go it wouldn't cost them anything but Ponder's contract & it will free up 3.7 M a year to sign a pretty good free agent. I guess it's all on how much Cap money the Vikes are willing to lose.

Cassel just keeps looking better and better to me.

Yep. The alternatives are truly ugly. That's why I think the Vikings' smart move would be to extend Cassel's contract at a better salary than he's promised in 2014. There are no immediate saviors to be found at #8 in this year's draft. And there are no franchise free agent quarterbacks. The Vikings need someone to hold them over, and while Cassel is clearly not a long-term solution, he's far better than the alternatives.

And, oh by the way... I expect Spielman to completely #### this up again. Which should not come as a surprise to anyone.

I really hope it's not Carr. If Spielman misses twice in 3 years with a QB, he's gone!

Overall, he still just seems marginally better than Ponder to me. The highs are certainly higher and when he's on his game, he looks better, more in command. For example, I don't think Ponder could have had the kind of performance Cassel had against the Eagles so in that sense, Cassel looks better to me but the lows...

Three of the Vikings 4 lowest point totals last year came in games Cassel started at QB. That is not encouraging, especially since two of them were at the end of the season.

Honestly, I just don't see a QB on the roster that's actually an appealing candidate to start next season. :(

Because messing up the QB position is, percentage wise, a pretty sure bet? Or because Spielman is such a putz? I can anticipate your answer, but how about recognizing the difficulty of the task and the humility w/ which he has spoken about his past failures? As you yourself admit (before the doomsday critique of Rick) the "alternatives are ugly".

Given that, if he does figure out a way to get at least average play from the position this year you'd have to recognize it as a complete success and praise him for it accordingly, right?

I wonder what he would have done  I know he would say that he would have drafted Russell Wilson or Kaepernick right
