My recollection was he was a quite good football player. Those were the actual words I used. The other words used were heck of a good football player. Those are both stronger statements than saying he was pretty good. I think construing those as negative is hard to support. Turns out he was better than my recollection. 5 time first team all pro and All-Decade team honors seems probably Ring of Honor worthy. However, consider what should the standards be for Ring of Honor. Is it meant for every good player that ever played for us or is it meant for the Greatest Vikings of all time. Seems like it is somewhere in-between.VikingPaul73 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 12:23 pmI guess it’s just semantics- true, saying he’s pretty good is not overtly negative ….VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 11:19 am
I saw zero negativity posted about KW. Every post said very good or heck of a good football player. He just wasn't a name that popped for me as deserving of Ring of Honor. I look at that as say 10 best Vikings of all time.
I realize no one has said he sucks or anything, but to me saying a potential future HOFer is not deserving of ring of honor is a slight against him (and a negative take; IMHO)
No worries though - personally I’m glad he’s in and like Kapp said , hoping he will be enshrined in Canton one day

I doubt Daunte will get ever in, he did not get along with Wilf and Vikings management and wanted out of MinnesotaRhodes Closed wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 11:43 amKevin Williams far surpasses the bar of a Ring of Honor for the Minnesota Vikings as I think even Pat should be eligible for it. It was the 5 First team All Pros and all decade team that convinced me. What do you think Ring of Honor Standards should be? Is Kevin Williams at the bottom of those standards or do we let less talented players in as well?

I would bet my house that he's in Canton at some point. The idea that a person could make the HOF but not our Ring of Honor is funny.VikingPaul73 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 12:23 pmI guess it’s just semantics- true, saying he’s pretty good is not overtly negative ….VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 11:19 am

Those players will eventually get in, so I'm not sure why you think the standards should be higher when they will inevitably be lowered eventually. If you induct only your greatest players instead of contributors that did well in the system, then you've already limited yourself tremendously.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 12:07 pmSo being a good player is all it takes for Ring of Honor. Scott Studwell has only 2 Pro Bowls to his name, and was only a 1-time Second-Team All-Pro, even if he holds the Team's Career Tackling Record. If he's the bar that's set, then:
Daunte Culpepper (3x Pro Bowl, First-Team All-Pro, Second-Team All-Pro, 1x Passing Yards Leader, 1x Touchdown Leader)
Pat Williams (3x Pro Bowl, 1x Second-Team All-Pro)
Everson Griffen (4x Pro Bowl, 1x Second-Team All-Pro)
Xavier Rhodes (3x Pro Bowl, 1x First-Team All-Pro)
Anthony Barr (4x Pro Bowl, 1x Second-Team All-Pro)
All have an equal argument to be in the Ring of Honor.

Re: Kevin Williams is in Ring of Honor
Daunte got mad that Brad Johnson was the starter again and the Wilf Family was not happy with how his rehabilitation was going and asked that he rehabilitate in Minnesota, which would have been better for his career overall. Daunte said no, was being selfish, and demanded he wanted to leave Minnesota if he couldn't be left to his own devices. You can feel free to blame the Wilfs for having the temerity to ask their star quarterback to come to the state and heal there, but I blame that on Daunte.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 1:14 pmI doubt Daunte will get ever in, he did not get along with Wilf and Vikings management and wanted out of MinnesotaRhodes Closed wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 11:43 am

Re: Kevin Williams is in Ring of Honor
And to me those players making it causes the Ring of Honor to be virtually meaningless. OK they were good players. I want the Ring of Honor reserved for Page, Eller, Foreman, Tarkenton, Moss, C Carter, Yary, McDaniel and others of their level that aren't immediately coming to mind. Studwell is kind of unique. As a player he was good not great, but career achievement on the field and off makes him borderline.Rhodes Closed wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 2:04 pmThose players will eventually get in, so I'm not sure why you think the standards should be higher when they will inevitably be lowered eventually. A Ring of Honor isn't any less meaningful is players who were very good get in. It's not the Minnesota Vikings Hall of Fame, it's the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor, to honor those that made an impact in some way on the team, and if we're honest, guys like Daunte, Everson, and Barr made an impact on the team in one way or another.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 3:33 pmAnd to me those players making it causes the Ring of Honor to be virtually meaningless. True but honestly he is mediocre overall
