Re: Thoughts
McKinnon looked good, better then the trillion dollar man.
Teddy had the one nice drive (think the was 5/5 at one time)
Wallace looked ok, guess the refs dont think he can get a PI call when hes raped in the endzone, with a perfect pass, not that hes a Viking.
Walsh made one FG. Thats one more then I thought he would make. The vikings go for a 4th down instead of even letting him try a 49 yrd kick. So glad Rick isnt worried about this.
Im not going in the 500 negatives things. Im too dam tired. I thought we would lead the entire game and win by a few. I didnt know the D was this bad.

Re: Thoughts
This game is MUCH more on the LB's. Greenway looks too old to coach, let a lone play. Hodges got owned all night. Barr was blaw (with we had gotten Molsley).fiestavike wrote: I actually disagree here. Its pretty much the only bright spot. The line wasn't terrible. the linebackers were HS level.
Blah i could go on all night but it doesnt matter. Too much youth on the team that think they are superstars.

Re: Thoughts
Some quotes for you. All of these came from one thread after the Packers got their butt kicked by the Seahawks the first game last year. Now the Niners were not the SB champions the year before but the point is, bad games happen. The season is not over. It's the first game. At least we don't have the pressure of trying to go undefeated.
The Bears will win the division and we'll be 8-8 at best unless a lot of things change. Not improve, but change. It might take a .500 season to finally turn things around. Maybe this year will be like 2008 was and the next few will be better. The sad thing is with some different decisions, this year could have been like 2009-11.
"To have an entire off season to prepare and get owned like that is sad."
It is sad, especially early in the 3rd quarter when you realize we are watching the same thing we have seen the last several years. Really disappointed in the tackling, lack of discipline again, and a team not ready to play again. Anyone think that 2 weeks without live NFL competition can cause your QB to be off his normal game? I think Lacy got dinged early and was a bit gun shy after that and started heading E/W more than usual.
Yet again, the defense couldn't get off the filed in the Fourth Quarter.
Same old story.
Our DL stays blocked, our OL can't stay on blocks. We lost that game at the line of scrimmage.
Going into the yet another season with those two impostors trying to play ILB is pathetic. Not a single attempt by the GM to improve the position. The GM takes some sort of special pride managing the salary cap and staying young, big deal. Congratulations.
And bitterly disappointed. I didn't expect to win this game but to lose the way we did on national television is down right embarrassing. Thank god this was only the first game and a lot can change between now and November/December.
http://packersnews.net/phpbb3/viewtopic ... &start=105Bingo. That is the problem. We thought with the improved personnel on defense that this team would be better. But we saw the same crappy defensive scheme that doesn't play to the player's strengths, with predictable results. The missed tackles are on the players, them not being put into position to succeed is coaching. Then the offense played soft to boot, and special teams mistakes.
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966
Re: Thoughts
My biggest thought, greenway is slow. Like, my 70 year old mom with a bad hip can outrun him right now. This defense can be fierce but IMO depends too much on blitzing. They don't get much pressure unless they send extras. They need to live or die by it . Keep kendricks in and unleash the kid , jesus christ.

I've been harping on this for 2 years now. Whoever they put into replace wont have any more stupid plays, and they may actually tackle someone, and not just get outrun.Boon wrote:My biggest thought, greenway is slow. It's funny that PAcker fans are so down on their team. I would trade places with them in a heartbeat.

Norv is awful in play call (no rhythm) and design
Run defense is the worst
Hodges, Barr, Greenway all played like sallies.
Teddy is more conservative than Alex Smith.
Teddy's accuracy is no bueno.
McKinnon was good.
Sigh.

Great post. The people saying that this game was the worst they've seen in a long time must have very short memories. Either that or they didn't watch the Christian Ponder game against Green Bay last year. Or the game against the Patriots. Or the game against the Giants the year before that.Raptorman wrote:Some quotes for you. I could go on, but the point is made. This game sucked but we've seen worse.

Re: Thoughts
The D existed and did stuff...I guess. I mean, it wasn't 40 or 50 points out there for a reason.
But when they gave up a 5 minute, 93 yard touchdown drive to close out the second quarter,
you had to know what you were in for in the second half.
The punting and kicking on this team used to be a major asset. Now we go for it on 4th and 3 for under 50 yard kicks and have back to back to back punts under 40 yards. Watching the 49ers guy wallop a 71 yarder was just...
sigh.
The line was so bad. Everything was out of the shotgun and getting blown up. Multiple, huge sacks in the game.
4 or 5 monster sacks like that a game and Teddy won't make it. Adrian Peterson, what can you say about that "performance?" Everything the coaches did and he did last night was puzzling and timid. Talking myself into thinking Peterson was going to have one of those lower-the-booms, blast through everybody, hurdle the weak and trample the dead games and then watching him go down to fairly minimal contact was so disappointing.
You would think this team was going to be Run/Stop the Run old school, tough football but they looked so soft and lame out there.
Oh, and Heaven help this team against a better pocket passing QB, like Stafford next week. Megatron's stat line will be OMG/WTF/BBQ for an overall rating of, "I'm quitting watching football and taking up needlepoint."

... or the first game against the Lions last year or a pretty sorry effort at Soldier Field...DK Sweets wrote:Great post. What upsets me is that weaknesses that were obvious last year remained glaring weaknesses last night: poor blocking, poor tackling, terrible run defense. The LBs are taking a lot of heat for the latter (and rightly so) but I thought the defensive line was pushed around far too often last night. They were beaten at the point of attack with disturbing regularity.I could go on, but the point is made. This game sucked but we've seen worse.
The Vikes were out-coached and out-played in nearly every phase of the game last night. Bridgewater's supposedly terrific accuracy was in short supply and it's mind-boggling that Peterson only carried the ball 4 times in the first half and only touched the ball 13 times. The 49ers were clearly the more physical team. That has to trouble Mike Zimmer.
There's barely a positive thing to say about the team's performance last night, although I did love Smith's hit on Kaepernick and Priefer's special teams came up with two big plays early (creating opportunities the offense then squandered).
I hope they can re-group and play better next week because last night, the Vikes were craptastic.

Re: Thoughts
My thoughts are this.
Surprisingly good defensive special teams play.
I REALLY liked when Zimmer took the running into the punter penalty and opted to rekick. Both the announcers were confused but I believe Zimmer was being very clever. The 'Niners had played extremely undisciplined football and every chance you could give them to get another penalty would be a smart one. Some people will say Zimmer was lucky it came back but I think it was the bet he was making and it paid off.
I am actually relatively happy with Bridgewater's ability to play despite the horrific pressure he faced. He only had one interception and it was into the fourth quarter. He made some poor throws but also made some decent ones. His stat line isn't great but I think his lack of interceptions and ability to get over 200 yards in THAT game show that he does still have the skills. I am honestly over the moon with him limiting it to 1 turnover. If you just watch the game I think most would expect multiple turn overs and a sub 200 yard effort. Bridgewater looked lost at some points but also looked like the solid player we expect him to be. This time last year I think he would have thrown 3+ interceptions. This was as good a sign as you could pull from it.
Adrian Peterson. Idk what is going on there but this could be a rough season for him. I do not think that AP is going to fit into Norv's scheme really well. I was shocked at how much better Mickinnie looked than Peterson just by not stutter stepping and hitting his creases. Say whatever you will about Peterson but he always looks for the home run ball and with the fewer touches he will get in Norv's system I just dont see him having much success.
