Hello my fellow vikings fans,

I will admit, I was surprised at first at the amount of picks we gave up to trade back in the first round. However after looking at the big picture, I understand why they did it and feel much better. As everyone said, this kid has amazing upside and at minimum will be a great return guy his first year. He is raw and needs some polishing but remember he will not be the focus of our offense. We have AP and Jennings along with Rudolph carrying the load. We just need him to be a decoy that has the potential to make one big play every game. As soon as defenses see this kid can make a big play, they will respect our passing game making it easier for AP with no 8 men in the box.

Let me ask you, ever since Randy Moss left, did we have a deep threat? we have been severely lacking that and as much as I liked Percy, he was a slot guy. Could he end up being a bust? Absolutely! However I do strongly believe a player odds of flourishing increase if he is put on the right team. When a young kid has all the pressure on him and a rebuilding team, it can be overwhelming. That is not the case here. And if this kids works out, he will be one hell of a player with his tremendous upside.

Finally, I looked at the draft chart point system and what the vikings gave up is reasonable and not over the top at all. They really wanted him and since everyone expected this kid to be the second WR taken in the draft, Vikings knew it was either now or Rams would pounce on him. Remember they lost amendola and they were already on the market for more WR help. Ravens was another possibility with the loss of Boldin.

Overall I believe this was an excellent draft for the Vikings, very happy as we addressed 3 key needs and got the best value.

If these 3 guys can turn into at least solid starters this year, this will already have been an amazing draft.

mosscarter wrote:i wanted a receiver as much as all of you, but we nearly gave up half of our draft to pick a guy who isn't proven whatsoever. when the falcons traded 3 picks for julio jones, i'm pretty certain everyone knew they gave up a lot, but at the same time he was a bona-fide playmaker. can someone please tell me patterson was worth 4 picks, or at least give me a mild optimistic view?
They gave up a 1st round pick. and 2 high picks. we swapped a high 2nd for a high 1st with a 3rd 4rth and 7th way different.

Patterson reminds me off TO in size and ability and Vincent Jackson ....

with Jennings, Patterson, Simpson, Wright, (Childs ??) That is a far better group than we have had in years IMO

purple bruise: how can you be a vikings fan and call randy moss a "POS" draft pick?????????? listen closely, randy moss was the greatest receiver to ever play this game. and frankly, the fact that he fell all the way into the 20's makes him the greatest steal in the history of the draft if you ask me.

The greatest steal in the history of the draft? Wasn't Tom Brady selected in the 6th round? lol

Right ... but Randy Moss was a 1st round pick and Brady was a 6th round pick ...

but nobody really expected moss to drop into the 20's, as far as brady goes, lets face it the man was a total fluke of a pick end of story. the reason i even responded is because someone called moss a piece of sh*t and you must be kidding me. in fact, why did brady set the all time td record? that is what i thought.

Interesting that his rating was nearly identical to Jennings. He clearly has the physical tools, now it's just a matter of whether that will translate on the field or not.

You are aware he was joking right? At least I'm pretty sure he was. I think he was mocking everyone who has been complaining about the CP pick. Purple bruise is usually a super positive guy... I'd be surprised if he were cutting down that pick...

From the moment I saw tape of Cordarrelle Patterson I knew we had to get this guy. My gut told me that this dude is gonna be a massive stud, and I wouldn't be able to stand watching him develop and blossom into superstar on any other team but the vikes. I was literally depressed at the though of him getting snatched up before we had a chance to pick. Please let him wear 84!

I must say too, that it is inaccurate in more ways than one, to claim we gave up half our draft for this man. I don't have the statistics on hand, but I am certain they would attest to the fact that the likelihood of finding a star player, (or even a viable starter), steadily, perhaps even exponentially declines as you descend through later rounds. it would take a whole boatload of 7th rounders to equal even a late first. Of course there are outliers, but I believe these are becoming rarer as the science of scouting and evaluating prospects becomes more refined. We sacrificed a few mediocre pros, or solid backups to get us a Moss again and I for one am ecstatic. You can't quantify play-making ability. Look at some of this guys runs, defense has him dead to rights, 10 yards in his own backfield, but he just refuses to let the play die. He's the kind of player that makes you hold your breath whenever the ball is in his hands. Yes he's unpolished, bu that just means we have yet to see the realization of his full potential

Its pretty much like Calvin Johnson falling to us at the 20th pick. HUGE steal.

Dude, read the post. I said giving a 3rd round pick for Moss was a Joke. Not when they first drafted him
