Loved Pat, and unlike the Packers players we always get, never thought of him as an ex bill, but a Vike. I like this plan.

Because I don't even know what "retire a Viking" means when you're talking about a guy who has been out of football for two years. It's just more NFL marketing fluff so that the modern day football fan can cheer for nothing in particular. Like I say, if it makes you feel good, whoopee. Have another beer.

It means that the player retired under contract with the team he wishes his memory be associated with. It's a symbolic gesture not only to the fans, but to the player and ball club themselves.

I understand if you don't think it's the biggest news since the Watergate Scandal, but I don't see the need to groan about it. It's nice to see a player we cheered for and loved show a gesture of affiliation to the ball club we cheer for. I certainly am glad to hear that Fat Pat appreciated his time in Minnesota and views the Vikings as the club he associates his career with. If it means nothing to you, that's fine too.

it seems like nothing to some but imagine if the shoe were on the other foot. what if after another 5-7 years we release AD and he signs with the packers. after two seasons with them he retires but decides to retire a packer.

i can assure you there would be uproar. :steamed:

Kevin and phat Pat made up possibly the best DT tandem in history.

Man, 3 years in a row with well under 100 yards rushing average against us....

Both were like immoveable trees that stopped all who tried to move them.

But you would have drafted his younger, better replacement. :D

Or get smart, loose 100 to 150 lbs and try not to be dead by the time you're 55 like many of your colleagues.

Everybody loves Pat.

I just asked a question of why it was necessary to come back and retire a Viking when he never played another snap for any other team after the Vikes. But I realize that it's the thing they do nowadays, so whatever.
