One more year? I don't see the thought process here... he's signed for three more years, no? My guess is he'll either pout and be a pain in the backside this season or he'll come back into the Vikings fold and will finish his career with us, playing out his contract. At this point, I'm leaning towards the latter scenario. But I definitely don't think he has just one year left with us. To me, it's 0 or 3.
The way he and his agent talked, I figured 1 year would be it, until they can negotiate a trade. But if he actually wants to end his career here, that would be awesome. For some reason I thought he only had 2 left. But then, I can never figure out contracts, the front end, the incentives, etc. I think he and McKinnon would rock, with Asiata at the goaline. He impressed me when we were close last year. But then how do you take the ball out of AP's hands?

@TomPelissero NFLPA announces it has filed a motion holding Roger Goodell and NFL in contempt of court for not acting on Doty ruling.
@TomPelissero Simultaneously, clerk in 8th Circuit has granted NFL's motion for extension on reply brief, also related to Peterson case. Hooray sports!

Breer used the right word: this is a bomb. Here's the complete press release from the NFLPA:
https://www.nflpa.com/news/all-news/nfl ... t-of-court
NFLPA FILES MOTION FILES MOTION TO HOLD NFL AND COMMISSIONER IN CONTEMPT OF COURT IN PETERSON MATTER
Today, the players filed a motion in Federal Court in the Adrian Peterson matter because the Commissioner and NFL have deliberately ignored both the Court's decision from eleven weeks ago and our repeated requests to comply with that order.
On February 26th, the NFL was ordered to change their decision in the Peterson matter and reissue a ruling consistent with our collective bargaining agreement. The Union made multiple requests to the League office asking the arbitrator, who serves at the direction of the Commissioner, to comply with the law and avoid further litigation. Despite our attempts, they have done nothing and leave us no choice but to seek this motion.
The delay tactics, inconsistencies and arbitrary decision making of the League has continued to hurt the rights of players, the credibility of the League office and the integrity of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. In the absence of any action by the NFL's governing board of owners, the players have acted to hold the NFL accountable to our players, the CBA and to the law.

NFLPA President

This is going to get ugly. I'm curious, will the Vikings get any compensation from this if things go Peterson's way since we had to play games without out him...costing us a playoff spot opportunity? Or would it be Peterson gaining a "few extra" bucks and tough luck for the Vikes and a "we're sorry" speech from the Commish/NFL?

I hear there's a spare first-round draft pick available.

No. But in a fun fantasy the Vikings get the 1st rounder the Patriots surrendered AND the public apology Kraft wanted.

It means the player's union has had enough of the league's hubris, and Goodell's in particular, and they're starting to seriously fight back.
This article by Tom Pelissero is enlightening:

More regarding the motion the NFLPA filed yesterday in relation to Peterson's case:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/vincentfran ... horizon/2/
Why does this all matter?
There’s a decent possibility that Tom Brady and the union will go to court in order to appeal his four-game suspension stemming from the Deflategate scandal. Depending on the timing of the Peterson ruling, there could be precedent of a successful challenge to Goodell’s arbitration power already set in federal court. Considering there is already a state court that has set precedent, there’s a possibility the feds could rule in Peterson’s favor. If so, the NFL might face multiple successful challenges to its power in federal court. That would be an absolutely huge blow to the powers to be in New York City.
In short, the union is now finally taking a stand against what has to be considered overreaching power from the league office in New York City. Should the Peterson case be heard by the feds, and Brady’s case ultimately makes it to court, we could be in for a major legal battle between the NFL and the NFLPA.
There's more at the link. The Greg Hardy case is also a consideration.
This Missouri case could ultimately factor into things as well:

If the NFLPA doesn't like Goodell's authority in deciding discipline they only have themselves to blame. Protocols for discipline are a part of almost every collective bargaining agreement. The players GAVE Goodell the authority he has when they agreed to the last CBA.

Blame isn't really the point, is it? Just because the union ceded this degree of authority to the league and Goodell in the last CBA, that doesn't mean Goodell isn't abusing it.

I don't understand the comments regarding the NFLPA giving Goodell the authority being the end all. It's seems to me they bargained for one thing and are getting another.....the court decisions seem to be backing that sentiment. It's like telling a community that voted in a representative, who turned his back on the constituents in favor of special interests after he promised reform, that it's their fault the guy couldn't be trusted.
Where this will really come back around is at the next negotiations. The precedents being set by the spontaneous disciplinary measures are going to be sticking points for one side or the other. Fans and sponsors maybe ok with the way Goodell is running things but I've yet to hear of much support for his use of this authority from anyone else in the league...and that includes the decisions around bountygate as well. Another set of decisions in which the ones taken to court were overturned, if I remember correctly.
I dunno....Goodell looks a bit like he's in Elliot Ness mode and is treating the players like he doesn't really care about the consequences....probably due to the fact that he has no oversight at all unless he gets taken to court.
So yeah, the NFLPA agreed to give him the authority....but this is just beginning IMO. I bet it could get pretty bogged down by the end of it.
