Zygi Wilf to AP: "Any other location besides Arden Hills wouldn’t justify near that level of commitment" of their $400M for AH site.
Zygi confirming to @APKrawczynski what I had heard/reported over past month ... #Vikings contribution drops if stadium isn't in Arden Hills.

What Zygi is saying is he either has an offer on the table for the team or would have an offer on the table for the team that makes any alternative site worth far less to him. I'm pretty sure the Wilfs are betting on getting a lot of cheap land they can develop around the stadium site and make a killing off, so any site other than Arden Hills is worth much less than what they could get selling the team outright and letting the new owners move it.

One thing I wish the Wilfs would do is just come out and say they're selling it if the deal isn't done by the time the lease runs out. They're playing nice and that's all fine and dandy, but I get the strong sense that many voters and those in the legislature believe they can string this out without consequences. The Wilfs might alienate some by that move, but at least it would make the outcome clear and set a hard deadline for action. That is the sort of kick-in-the-behind that people like Zellers probably need. Nothing like a deadline with consequences to get people to stop posturing and start doing things.

Something new. For 28.5 million, maybe Zygi should buy it himself.
Ramsey County officials say they've struck a $28.5 million deal with the military to buy the Arden Hills site of a proposed $1.1 billion Minnesota Vikings stadium.

The purchase price reportedly includes cleanup costs and squelches speculation that the cost and cleanup of the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant could run as high as $70 million.

Included in the 430-acre offer is 123 acres of natural area north of the proposed stadium site bordering the Rice Creek Wildlife corridor. Most of that land would remain wildlife area with access roads

Sounds like dirty backroom politics. Why would they sell Arden Hills to the military cheaper than what the Vikings would pay for it. With all the base closings and downsizing of the military odds are this wouldn't be as profitable to Ramsey county as the Vikings would be.

edit; After reading the article this seems to clear the way for the Vikings to buy it rather than selling the site out from under them.

Huh? What are you talking about? First of all, Arden Hills hasn't bought the land yet. Secondly, Arden Hills is buying it FOR the Vikings which was the plan all along...so what are you getting at exactly?

Reading Raptorman's quote that he put in. I read it as Ramsey co was selling it rather than buying it.

The military owns that land currently...

Here I thought most people knew that. Just to clarify, The county has made a deal to buy the land FROM the military for 28.8 million.

Not really, buying the land does not mean they are going to build a stadium

Would you rather the story be...

"Arden Hills has reached a snag in the deal with the military. They want 5x the original asking price, plus clean-up will cost over $150 million."

This is a good thing and DEFINITELY a step in the right direction (especially the fact that it's cheaper to clean it up than critics were estimating).

I think it's finally a step in the right direction to making it a done deal. Sorry living in Wisconsin they cover very little about the Vikes unless it'snarky comments about their losses. I get most my info through DeadPoet. I do see Raptorman taking pins to the inflated heads of Packer fans on the one Green Bay board I lurk on to see what the misguided that live around me think.

The lesson here is that I should have said nothing so you all would only think I'm a fool instead of confirming it.
