Good thinkingKSViking wrote:I woudn't trade much for a solid backup, most years, backup QBs are available in FA. Also, If I was a GM, I would spend at least 1 pick every draft on a QB. Whether he was a 5,6,7th pick or whatever. My theory is that if your 3rd QB wasn't good enough to become the Backup, then he probably isn't good enough to be on the team at all. And if you have a good QB starting, and have found a great Backup, then either need to have a plan for him starting before his contract expires, or trade him off to a team and get some picks.. IE Flynn, Colb, Schaub, ect ect. This is just me, but my team would never have the same 3 QBs any consecutive years.
As far as Ponder goes, I don't think he will be a guy to help guide or tutor another young QB coming to our team. I don't think that he is worthy of being a starter, and Im not sure we get anything if we try to trade him. what I would do is pickup a Vet FA that can start if need be, or help train/groom a rookie in the ways of the NFL. and then Draft 1 or 2 QBs, One in first 3 rounds, and one with our later picks. See what competition can do for us. If they all stink, then that just gives us a better shot at a top pick where we get the QB of our choosing next season.
I was following along until the part about " then that just gives us a better shot at a top pick where we get the QB of our choosing next season" . I missed the part explaining how the Vikes would get the QB of their choosing next seasonLaserman wrote: Good thinking
Based on what exactly? Did you just pull that number out of thin air? You don't know who the starting QB will be. You don't even know what QBs will be on the roster. The team has 18 free agents, most of whom won't be back. They haven't made a single off season trade, free agent signing or draft pick yet.Purple bruise wrote:I believe they will/should win at least two more games
And will be running a different offense and defense to boot....Eli wrote: Based on what exactly? Did you just pull that number out of thin air? You don't know who the starting QB will be. That would definitely be interesting. Hmm.HornedMessiah wrote:Weeden is starting to grumble about wanting out of Cleveland and who can blame him, right? So...straight up Ponder-for-Weeden swap? It's not like Weeden is very impressive but neither is Ponder. Both are 1st round busts. I don't think Weeden will turn into a starter but he could be a good backup.
Norv also worked with him last year, so if we do make a move for Weeden I'll feel good about it. If we don't, oh well.
You can't be serious. Weeden is GARBAGE. Please. For the love of God. Ick.HornedMessiah wrote:Weeden is starting to grumble about wanting out of Cleveland and who can blame him, right? Unlike you old eli I have faith in the team. With a new coach, several solid players (not to mention AD) and a new coaching staff yeah I believe they can win 7 games. If you don't think that this team is capable of 7 wins (less than 50%) why do you botherEli wrote: Based on what exactly? Did you just pull that number out of thin air? I guess I haven't seen him play very much. Seems like he's been hurt a few times? Who knows, a change of scenery could do wonders and he's already a year ahead of any other QB as far as being familiar with Norv and his offense. So he's got that going for him. He'll have more talent around him here than he does in Cleveland, too. Again, I'm not talking about bringing him in to be the starter. Sure, he'll come in and "compete" but the actual starter will be a draft pick or Cassell or some other FA.frosted21 wrote:You can't be serious. Weeden is GARBAGE. Please. For the love of God. Ick.

I couldn't agree more. If the starter goes down with an injury and is out for any length of time, then we're stuck with Flounder as our starter again. Hasn't this fan base suffered enough already?soflavike wrote:I don't understand how a lousy starting QB could be considered an acceptable backup. In today's game, chances are pretty good that your backup will be playing a few games as a starter. Ponder coming off the bench makes me just as sick-to-my-stomach as Ponder starting the game.
You need someone with "game-brain", not an indecisive, limp-armed, chicken of a QB that has proven his lack of mettle over and over again. I don't care what Ponder's passer rating is, or his yardage or his Wunderlich or anything else. HE IS A KNOWN QUANTITY AS A STARTER... and it's a low number. The Vikings need to dump Ponder and not waste any further effort on discovering his inner-Montana... there isn't any in there.![]()
Let's get a decent veteran (Cassel will do), and get a young QB with potential to work with. No more retreads looking to reignite careers, we need to look forward.
Ohhhh you have faith. Well why didn't you say that to begin with? Faith is bulletproof. It's like a cheat code for life. Oh wait, how long have you been a fan of this team? Yeah now that I think about it, you should probably get that faith looked at. I have overwhelming evidence that it might be broken.Purple bruise wrote:Unlike you old eli I have faith in the team.
That may be true, but at least Weeden is familiar with Norvs offense whereas Ponder is not. Not to mention Norv prefers a vertical passing attack and says he wants to spread our offense out more. Yeah now picture check down charlie trying to run that type of offense. Terrifying. He couldn't even handle Muskrats game manager offense, so Gilligan needs to go.frosted21 wrote:You can't be serious. Weeden is GARBAGE. Please. For the love of God. Ick.
Ok. Like I said, you pulled the number out of thin air. Great. You're a true fan. Congratulations. Why do you bother posting if what you post is base on nothing more than wishful thinking?Purple bruise wrote:With a new coach, several solid players (not to mention AD) and a new coaching staff yeah I believe they can win 7 games. I mistakingly thought that when I mentioned why I thought that the Vikings would win 2 more games than last year " With a new coach, several solid players (not to mention AD) and a new coaching staff yeah I believe they can win 7 games.", you could possibly grasp why I came up with that number. It was not out of thin air but I happen to believe that this team will be much improved. Some how you thought that you needed to question my statement, for what ever reason that is but there AGAIN is your answerEli wrote: Ok. Like I said, you pulled the number out of thin air. Great.
