Now that Bridgewater has declared to the NFL it helps a little with the chances of the Vikings getting JFB. They need to do anything within reason to draft him

I honestly hope JFB goes #1 now tbh. It opens up the door for us to move up to #2 and draft Bridgewater

Brett Hundley in my opinion could be better than Russel Wilson if he comes out, I don't know if he would last to pick #8

Wow, yeah, that would be just brilliant. Probably wouldn't cost more than this year's 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks, plus next year's 2nd rounder. Exactly what you want to do when you have a million holes in your starting lineup and no depth at any position.

Just traded 4 for 1 for a WR. And Spielman said we "weren't that far" or some such nonsense so hey let's go for it!

Honestly, if there was a "can't miss" Luck type guy, it'd be worth it in a second. But there isn't. And gambling on Johnny Football for that much would be insane.

With a new coach, and Spielman already on the hot seat, he's going to have to get this turned around fast...

obviously it would depend on what the Rams are looking for. With 2 firsts this year and 9 picks overall, the Rams might not be looking for an huge haul in this season's draft.

And unless JFB and Teddy Bridgewater emerge as the undeniable top 2 prospects in this draft the way Luck and RG3 did in 2012, the bidding war probably won't get as intense as it did when the Redskins gave up all those picks for RG3. If we're patient and smart, I don't know that we'd have to mortgage our future. Something like our 1st and 3rd this year and a 1st next year could do it. Considering we have an extra 3rd, and would still have 6 first round picks in 4 years, I think it would be worth it if we could land a franchise QB, which I believe Bridgewater will be.

Or to put it another way, I'd rather give up a few picks to take a chance on a guy like Bridgewater, then wait and risk Spielman reaches again on a QB

keep in mind spielman has traded up the past two years in the draft. if he wants a qb i wouldn't be surprised if he did so again, but it comes with great risk this time. at least we didn't give up future picks to take the bum ponder.

Go watch his videos if you haven't, but focus on 2 things- his pocket presence and his his accuracy. This kid is the real deal. He moves around in the pocket, not away from, and he has great accuracy (of course a cannon arm too). Truth be told, I would sell out to draft this kid right now. He is going to be one of the best QB in he league. In fact, I think after measurements and work out, he may surpass Teddy as the #1 QB off the draft boards.
Polian and McShay are saying that they don't believe Bortles will go until the early 2nd round.

Purplemania wrote:#2 Johnny Manziel. Yah, he's got charisma. Yah, he's got the "it" factor. Yah, he's exciting. How about we take away all that stuff and just evaluate the guy as a pure NFL quarterback.
Like that quarterback that completed nearly 70% of his passes for 7,820 yards and 63 passing touchdowns in only two seasons?

Worth the read: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200000 ... uarterback
He isn't going to be very good. For one, his athleticism, which is the #1 reason for his sucess in college, wlll be neutralized by NFL defenders who are just as fast and athletic as Johnny. Wait until he tries to run like a headless chicken in the NFL and Suh just eat the kid up.
You do realize that some of the guys he's playing against now will be in the NFL, right? It's foolish to assume that his elusiveness will all of a sudden evaporate. Did Romo's? Big Ben's? He'll still make pass-rushers miss. Often.
but Manziel is still the type of QB who scrambles for yards when the pocket breaks down instead of scramblng to keep the play alive.
Wow. I disagree. He does both. I've actually been quite impressed with his ability to scramble while keeping his eyes down the field and make plays with his arm in addition to his legs. NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah believes Manziel's escapability against free rushers is the best he has ever seen. Called him "Romo on steroids."

Mothman wrote: Thanks for your response. I figured that was what you were thinking. QBs certainly get over-drafted but the desperate dynamic you're talking about has existed for some time now and we've never seen 4 QBs drafted so high. We've seen 3, so it's not impossible, but I'm guessing we'd be more likely to see a team trade down than to see 4 QBs from this class go in the top 7.

Maybe I'm wrong and history will be made! If so, as I said, that might be a blessing for the Vikings.
I don't think it will happen either, but it's not impossible. The Rookie wage scale is really what could make it happen. Ranking a player was more honest when you had to consider how much you had pay a top 5-10 pick. When you had to pay 40-70 million dollars... half of it guaranteed, if you bombed a QB pick in that range you were toast for 5 years. People still made gambles, but not as much as they do now or will going forward. Now that they have removed the financial punishment it's going to be easier to gamble at the top with a QB because it won't Nuke the franchise if you screw it up. This is the new reality of the draft, and a lot of people have yet to adjust their thinking to reflect the change.

Personally, If he was there at 8... which I don't believe he will be, I would go for Manziel. It's a monster gamble, but I think you close your eyes, clench your Butt Cheeks and jump. He's the only QB in this draft that appears to have the "It Factor", the thing that separates the best for the rest. Granted it takes more than just that to succeed (See Tim Tebow), but the only real knock on Manziel appears to be his size. Seriously if he was 6'3" 225 would there be any question he would the #1 overall pick?

I think the reward outweighs the risk if you have a proper contingency plan in case it doesn't work. That was the real failure with Ponder, not knowing when to fold em, and not having another option to go to when it went south. I'm over them taking him at 12, I get why they did it. It was the organization flat out refusing to consider other options that put them where they are now.

I don't think that it will matter which position we pick in the 1st round. QB, d-line, lb, almost any position should be an upgrade. Realistically, how many positions are on "lock-down"? Not many.

And if the guy "sky rockets" because of what he can do in shorts at the combine that's a pretty good sign he's going to be over hyped. Ponder was pretty good in shorts too
