There is a reason he isn't a starter, I agree. I also acknowledged he probably won't have more than one good game, but with no time to prepare for him, he may actually perform better than Ponder (for this game). I'm not asserting he should replace Ponder, I'm saying that those who are proclaiming "all is lost!" are overreacting just a tad. I actually think our chances to win this game just went up. IF we win and play next week, I hope Ponder will be ready, because if Joe has to play 2 in a row we may be in trouble...

Pelissero:

"Thought Dom Capers would heat up Ponder all night in passing situations. With Webb, there's danger there. Just ask Gunther Cunningham."

They wanted to blitz Ponder and play man against our relatively weak receivers. But Webb is incredibly hard to bring down, and if he breaks free, he'll run for 50 or 60 yards with none of the defenders looking at him, but instead following the receivers.
I think you're right. Joe Webb has a much stronger arm than Ponder... they have to respect the long ball... and Webb is dangerous as hell when he pump fakes and then takes off running. Their safeties and LB's will be going nuts trying to contain him.... and then we have this guy named Peterson, or something like that. He's pretty good, too.

Hot damn, I forgot how fast he was.

I'm just worried he's going to be a tad bit rusty and this could be ugly if he starts turning the ball over. And if he gets injured we get to see us some MBT. Would love to see a repeat of the Eagles game a few years ago.

My thoughts as well. A cold weather game may suit us better with Adrian/Webb than Adrian/Ponder.

A QB picking up 1st downs during 3rd and 5+ situations is a killer to defenses.

So, how many of you would have preferred Sage Rosenfels in this particular situation?

Not me.

I have had this Webb one on for awhile. I think Kyle Rudolph has a HUGE game today.

it's been so long since i've seen him play....i really can't say.

While it may work to have Webb tonight , anything beyond that worries me. Ponder's elbow issue is the same thing he had in college. If the Vikes should pull this out I hope Ponder can go next game.

big IF, I know.....

Well, This is the EXACT reason I am so happy we have a QB like Webb as the back up. I think this will be the Defining argument for or against "Change of pace" QBs being on the roster.

Yea, maybe a bunch of little roll-out passes.

The 49ers tried the change-of-pace and stuck with it... they liked it.

Yeah, bt Kapernick is WAY better of a passer than Webb. Although, in his defense, Webb hasn't played this season so you never know. But I don't think Kapernick will be the QB in SF next season.
