...ok dude we get it....you don't like Rick Spielman, just like you don't like the Wilfs, and the players, and the coaches, and the cheerleaders, and the metrodome, and the taste of the popcorn at the dome, and the kinds of beer they sell at the dome, and the new stadium, and the teams colors, and the brand of jock straps the players wear....and so on...

Your so repetitive it's not even funny. We understand you don't lIke Spielman and obviously nobody is changing your opinion on the matter. But there is also no need to mention it in every post you make. Your posts are just getting so tiring to even read anymore.

I'm hoping Spielman channels his inner Phil Emory on this search. I think Trestman was the best HC hire of 2013. He isn't perfect, but he has done wonders with their offense and their QBs. Total out of the box hire and he panned out.

LOL! One of the things that's fun about living in an NFL city outside of Minnesota but being a Vikings fan is that I get to see and hear perspectives on another NFL team daily. It's amusing to see Bears fans completely overreact to things and dole out harsh, over-the-top criticisms just like Vikes fans do. It's also interesting to encounter contrasts in perspective, especially when it comes from Vikes fans about the Bears. Hence the "laughter" at the beginning of this paragraph.

I think Trestman has done some great things with the Bears offense and I know Bears fans who feel likewise and are happy with the hire so far. On the other hand, Trestman has been heavily criticized this year and there are Bears fans currently ripping him for all sorts of reasons. After finishing with a .500 record and missing the playoffs, I don't think he's widely viewed in this area as a hire that has already panned out. There are people keeping an open mind about him, (as they should) but he's not exactly viewed as a clear success.

Anyway, the contrast between what you wrote above and what I hear around here every day is interesting.

I like Trestman but personally, I think Bruce Arians was the best HC hire of 2013.

Hopefully Spielman can cut through the hype and find a quality candidate who can make things happen. People seem to have forgotten that Childress was the "consensus hire" when he was hired here in 2006. I'm going to resist the tempation to let the Sports media frame who the "best candidates" are. Especially when one of them is Bevell.

I think that's a wise decision. A lot of times the hot candidate isn't the best candidate.

I would say Andy Reid has to be up there pretty high also .

If I had a "dream team" of potential coaches it would look like this:

HC James Franklin from Vandy - seems like a heckuva motivator
OC Scott Milanovich from the Toronto Argonauts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Milanovich - brilliant offensive minded coach
DC Rob Ryan from the Saints - has coached excellent defenses throughout his career

Of course, the chance of landing that threesome is about the same chance as taking a ski vacation in Hades. Still, all three are intriguing prospects. Franklin would probably want to bring his coaches from Vandy in, which could be a problem. Malinovich's HC experience is limited to the CFL, but he has been quite successful. Rob Ryan is probably not going to leave a plum job like the Saints unless it is as an HC candidate.

I see plenty of upside in all three of these guys, and they are a little outside the row of usual suspects.

I think you mean Rob Ryan, Rex's brother. Although I would actually prefer Rex to Rob, but neither is leaving their respective teams

Personally the top 3 candidates on my board would be all defensive guys.

1. Mike Zimmer, DC Cincinnati Bengals

2. Sean McDermott, DC Carolina Panthers

3. Dan Quinn, DC Seattle Seahawks


What I love about all three of them is they come from extremely productive defensive teams. They would bring in a much needed new attitude and philosophy, with all three defenses being much more aggressive, attacking defenses. But they also don't require a major schematic change or personnel overhaul, as all 3 run a 4-3 defense, meaning they can keep many of the good pieces we have in place while retooling the defense to fit their schemes.

It seems like the top candidates are all strong defensive guys, maybe we need to examine potential OC's, which will be key for these guys to succeed. I'm shocked the Vikings are talking to Bevell, I mean he was Musgrave 1.0. Unimaginative play calling, run-run-pass-punt. I bet I can go back to some old Bevell quotes and post them here and no one would be able to tell if the person is talking about Musgrave or Bevell.
He's done well in Seattle so maybe it was a case of being handcuffed by Chili but the risk is too high IMO, lets get some new blood in here.

I'm hoping Spielman is talking to him as part of his extensive search. Basically reaching out to multiple contacts just to build a network as was suggested in a recent article.
