Banal thread about great names in sports

Post by Welsh Vike »

Ok, it's the offseason for Vikings fans, so I wanted to throw out a theory I've had for a few years about some great sportsmen being destined to be great, because they have great names, and vice-versa.

I don't think there's any question that the likes of Joe Di Maggio, Pele, Socrates, and closer to home I suppose, Joe Montana, maybe even Brett Favre had names so cool that they had to succeed at whatever they did.

Similarly, the likes of Sage Rosenfels were destined for mediocrity. Sorry, Sage.

I have two questions. One, who were the best named Vikings whose talent matched their naming greatness? And two, I think the name Teddy Bridgewater has merit. Discuss.

Wasswa Serwanga is the best name ever, IMO... but he pretty much sucked.

Then there is Adimchinobe Echemandu. Again... sucked... but fun name to say.

For some reason Phil Loadholt sounds like a name that means football.

I was watching Youtube about a kid who did something (I Don't remember what) but his last name was Burpo. That struck me as funny...

Ok, back to the thread.... :)
