Webb played the entire second half of Carolina's preseason opener, completing 16-of-28 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. He was also a factor in the running game, adding 30 yards on four carries. Derek Anderson is locked in as Cam Newton's backup, and the Panthers are likely to keep only two quarterbacks. Webb is auditioning for a role on other teams.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Don't be surprised to see Joe Webb make the Carolina Panthers' 53-man roster as the third quarterback.
Carolina kept only two quarterbacks in 2013, a philosophy general manager Dave Gettleman brought with him from the New York Giants.
But with starter Cam Newton coming off left ankle surgery and the team needing a running quarterback to emulate what Newton does out of the read-option, Webb has a chance to make the team. "Without a doubt,'' coach Ron Rivera said on Friday. "That's why he's here, to compete for that spot.''

And that was BEFORE he threw and ran for over 200 yards

I hope he makes it. The guy was a fighter, whether at QB, or WR. He had some nice blocks, and was a big team player.

Good for him! If he can stay healthy, he's a great asset.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he plans to keep Joe Webb as the team's No. 3 quarterback.

The Panthers only kept two quarterbacks last year, but can't afford to cut Webb with Cam Newton (ribs) injured. Webb has completed 21-of-35 passes for 271 yards with two touchdowns and one interception through three preseason games, adding 30 yards on four carries. Derek Anderson will open the season as Newton's backup. Webb's roster spot won't be guaranteed once Newton returns.

The Ravens have expressed interest in free agent CB Derek Cox.

Cox, 27, was released from the Vikings on Monday. In Baltimore, he would provide depth behind injured starters Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb. The Ravens currently have just four healthy corners on their roster.

Ravens signed CB Derek Cox to a one-year, $730,000 contract.

Cox landed a $20 million contract from the Chargers as a free agent in 2013, only to flame out as one of the season's biggest busts and get released after the season. Then he couldn't even make it past first cuts in Minnesota this year. The Ravens will be in trouble if Cox is forced into meaningful snaps this season.

The Ravens released cornerback Derek Cox on Saturday, but he may not be away from the team for long.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that Cox, who signed in Baltimore after getting cut by the Vikings, is expected to re-sign with the team as soon as Sunday and described Saturday’s transaction as a procedural move.

This poor guy:

Ravens released CB Derek Cox.

Initially released during final cuts, the Ravens re-signed Cox on Tuesday. Cox's release likely means Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith will be ready to go for the Ravens' Week 1 matchup with the Bengals.
