NEW YORK - NBA veteran center Jason Collins has become the first active male professional athlete in the major four American sports leagues to come out as gay.

Collins wrote a first-person account posted Monday on Sports Illustrated's website. The 34-year-old Collins has played for six NBA teams in 12 seasons. He finished this past season with the Washington Wizards and is now a free agent. He says he wants to continue playing.

Collins writes: "If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand."

Collins played in a Final Four for Stanford and reached two NBA Finals. His twin brother, Jarron, was also a longtime NBA center. Jason says he came out to his brother last summer.
Good for him. I wonder if this will have somewhat of a domino effect to other athletes?

I'm thinking so. I hope so. It's time. They should just do it all at once, that way one or two guys don't have to take all of the heat. If dozens came out, it would be discussed for a day and we'd all move on. I like that. It's something that needs to happen, but it doesn't need to be dragged on for weeks or months. It is what it is--then let's get back to playing ball!!!!

I don't really want to know anyone's sex life gay or straight ..

Just treat people they way you want to be treated no matter what color they
or what they like and there is no issue
