Yahoo bot or something

Post by PurpleMustReign »

I saw this Yahoo thing as a user on our board. What is it? What is it's purpose. It doesn't scare me or anything, but I am curious.
The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." ‪#‎SKOL2018

It's a web spider or crawler. Yahoo, MSN bot, Google bot, and Inktomi Slurp are just a few. They send them out and they crawl the web gathering information. That's why when you type in a search for something it shows up in your search engine. The bots basically gather and index the information.

This link also helps explain it.

The new board here shows these things, the old one didn't. I asked the same question privately a while ago... I don't blame you for being curious.

I guess they're safe little things, but I wouldn't want them crawling around my house. :)
