WEEK 6: Green Bay @ Minnesota Vikings Discussion

Post by 808vikingsfan »

TV Distribution map. Looks like Hawaii will finally get the Vikings Sunday morning. Good news because I've been having issues with my normal way of watching games. Aikman but no Buck. I can live with that.
NFL TV Schedule and Maps: Week 6, 2017

Big game this week. Could be a turning point for the Vikings. A win here could give the team confidence heading into the bye week. A loss would put them 1-2 in the division with still having to play @GB and @DET.

Don't know what to think of the Packers yet. They fell behind big in 3 of their 5 games so far relying on Rodgers to do his magic in two of them. The Vikings did beat GB last year in Minn despite getting only 19 yds on 12 carries from Peterson. I think the Vikings have a good chance in beating GB as long as good Case shows up.

Offense. Positive yards on first down, limit penalties, convert 3rd downs. Unlikely Mckinnon will have another big game. Hope Murray can rise to the challenge.

Defense. Stop the run. Don't give up the big play. Keep everything in front and make Rodgers work for everything. Keep him in the pocket. It's going to be a good test for Waynes. I thought he had a solid game last week. I think he'll give up a couple but make some key plays down the stretch again. Packers are allowing a lot of sacks this year. Hope it continues on Sunday.

Isn't their bye the week after London?

Yeah. I just meant if they beat GB, they'll have confidence going into the Ravens game and then hopefully win overseas.

I think they will need 24 to 27 points to win this game. That is going to be the issue, can the offense score that much against what is really a pedestrian Packer defense? McKinnon flashed last week against the Bears and Shurmur is looking to be more than just a one trick pony OC. Those are good things. But we'll need the passing game to win. Hopefully Diggs can get over whatever groin related issues are ailing him and contribute.

Capers is probably going to try and make Keenum beat him and he is going to try and get him to make a mistake. The upside is that outside of really Mathews, the GB Front 7 is not stout. Their MLB are vulnerable and their best DL, Daniel, has been hurt. It might be a case where we will be able to dictate our rushing game to them, at least to some extent. We'll find out. GB has only played one really good passing team this year in ATL. 3 of the wins were against struggling offenses and they were at home. As was stated earlier, two of the wins were in the last second due to Rogers making magic. (Against lower tier NFL HCs, at least IMO.)

As is always the case with Green Bay, Rogers is magical and the media are all too eager to swoon over how great he is and therefore concludes the rest of Packers are great as well. As was stated above, the Packers are great at the position that matters the most, the rest of the roster is less impressive. Their OL in particular is quite vulnerable.

it should be a competitive game. Great opportunity for the Defense to make a statement.

Super pumped for this game. I went to the home opener last year and saw them beat the pack. I am taking my 7 year old to this game as his first Vikings experience, should be a fun time!

Good take I agree. I would say our offense is pretty unpredictable right now which is tough to game plan against. I've never been sold on GB defense

No Buck? Excellent!

One of the keys will be, especially early in the game, for the offense to at least stay on the field and get some 1st downs. The defense was out there a lot against Chicago and that simply won't fly against GB.

GB's line is beat up so it's going to be important to control the LOS and get to Rodgers.

This is going to be a tough one but the Vikings are very good at home. In order to have a chance to win the team will need to minimize penalties and special teams will need to provide good field position (and make FG's/PATs).

I WAS excited for this game until the nfl decided it didn't want to show up the local market. When almost any game would do a better rating than the browns they choose not to have a game opposite local mkt. Then the fox late game here in cbus is Rams v Jax. How putrid is that? I guarantee collectively there are more Vikings and Packers fans here than there are browns fans.

The Vikes in the Zimmer era have played one good defensive game and one bad defensive game against the Packers each season.

2014 - Gave up 42 and 24
2015 - Gave up 30 and 13
2016 - Gave up 14 and 38

There's no other pattern I can discern - sometimes it's the early game, sometimes the later game. Sometimes at home, sometimes on the road. So what I'm saying is we'll either need to score in the low 20's or in the 40's!

Feel for you.

This was always the case here in Hawaii. They'd show SF and Raiders games even when they sucked. Titans games now because of Marriotta.

The D has to show up big. And a good early running game. Then we have a chance, although its a slim one. Erin is one good and lucky sob.

When I lived in Falls Church, No. VA., I called every bar in the phone book (there were millions) to see if any showed Viking games. Not only did I find one after a few hours, but it was a vikings bar, and only 2 miles from my apartment. My friends and I would go there every week to watch the games, it was like being in MN. And the bar was packed, with great specials when the Vikes scored a TD. And this was when Moss was in his prime, there were A LOT of $1.50 pitchers of Heineken, and $1.50 shots. God I miss those days.
