Ryan’s 35-year career as a pro football coach began in 1961 as a defensive line coach with the Bills, and in 1968 he moved to the Jets, helping them win Super Bowl III. He spent two years with the Vikings in 1976 and 1977 before George Halas hired him to coach the Bears’ defense in 1978.
I wasn't alive for most of Buddy's career. Nevertheless, I respect the history of the NFL.

Vikings were 1st in the NFL in passing defense, and 6th in total defense in 1976 under Ryan. Ryan was the defensive coordinator for the Vikings last Super Bowl team in '76.

Obviously, Ryan is most remembered for his legendary defenses in Chicago - helping Chicago win the Super Bowl during the 1985 season.

R.I.P.
