Vikings drat DE/OLB Stephen Weatherly

Post by dead_poet »

Weatherly has the size and overall length to intrigue NFL teams as a developmental prospect, but he will need additional work to become a more competitive pass rusher off the edge. If he can add functional strength while maintaining his closing burst, he may have a role as a backup strongside OLB in a 3-4 with a shot at competing as an eventual starter.

He's a 4-3 DE who switched to 3-4 OLB when his program underwent a coaching change. He said he prefers playing DE in conversation with area press.

Weatherly’s 34 ½” arms and 83 ¼” wingspan were some of the largest and longest among his peers. To put that into perspective, when I attended the Senior Bowl weigh-in it was offensive tackle Le’Raven Clark who had the best length of all 110 attendees with 36 ⅛” arms and 85 ¾” wingspan.

However, it wasn’t just Weathley’s long reach that helped him stick out, it was his surprisingly quick 4.61 speed for 6’4” 267 pound big man as well as his 23 bench reps at the combine, which ranked first amongst his positional group.

The thing about this guy that got me a little jazzed... he is almost identical to Hunter in size and weight
would be great to build another piece to what could be one of the best defensive lines in the NFL...

IMO the Giants owe both of the Superbowls to their D line... Tom Brady couldn't cope with the pressure...
no one expects the Spanish Inquisition!
