Granted, our punter is not our biggest weakness now, but I want to touch on something that others have broughtup...
Is it possible that he is not holding the ball right for Blair Walsh? I would be really curious to see if Blair had a veteran holder if he would be struggling like this. He clearly has the talent, but just keeps missing.
Locke reminds me of Chris Kleuwe, minus the big mouth. Ball at midfield, and he kicks it all the way... to the 20??? Really? Kleuwe couldn't directional kick, and I think Locke doesn't have a strong enough leg to make it as a NFL punter.

Re: Jeff Locke
Also, I was happy when we drafted Locke, but a large part of that could be because I hated Chris Kleuwe. Maybe it is time to draft another punter.

I think so. Painfully inconsistent. Every time I think he's figured it out he lays an egg.PurpleMustReign wrote:Also, I was happy when we drafted Locke, but a large part of that could be because I hated Chris Kleuwe. Maybe it is time to draft another punter.

Right now I wouldn't even care if they went with offensive linemen in all 7 rounds. Trollish behavior but I wouldn't even complain, last thing they need is a punter

Re: Jeff Locke
A few weeks ago Kluwe actually tweeted about the way Locke was placing the ball and holding it. I don't remember the exact wording, but it essentially said that the problems Walsh was having was due to poor holding. I take it with a grain of salt, Kluwe is still a bit sour over being cut, but I think there's a grain of truth to it.PurpleMustReign wrote:

Has he made any comments to indicate he's still sour or do you just assume that?akvikingsfan wrote:

I'm not sure how to word that without it sounding like I'm being rude, but it's a sincere question.

If I were a GM, I wouldn't draft a punter unless you held a gun to my head, and even then I might risk it.PurpleMustReign wrote:Also, I was happy when we drafted Locke, but a large part of that could be because I hated Chris Kleuwe. Maybe it is time to draft another punter.
There's never a reason to draft a punter unless he's a once-in-a-lifetime dude like Ray Guy. There are so many punters out there ... I don't understand how bad punters keep their jobs. Want to replace Locke? Pick up the phone and call any of a dozen free agents.
That was a big part of Kluwe's problem. He thought he was irreplaceable. And if he's Tweeting about how Locke holds for Walsh, he must still believe he's irreplaceable.
Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.

Re: Jeff Locke
I agree. I hope that's not on Ricks list of positions to draft next year. I believe Loche cost a 5th round pick? And If I remember he was never a booming kicker, he was a specialist at placing punts. I dont think he's lived up for that. So much so, I dont think it would be a bad idea to start looking for FA punters, now, and the start of next season. Im more worried about how he holds the ball for Walsh then anything. Walsh has proved and reproved himself. I think we all want to stick with him as a Viking.J. I hear you. Perhaps the words "good" and "punter" constitute an oxymoron.Jordysghost wrote: Maybe there aren't as many good punters out there as you might think.

I don't take it as being rude. He hasn't said anything in the last year, but for a while everything he was saying sounded very sour. He's more concerned with the #BlackLivesMatter and #GamerGate than being upset with the Vikings. But when he does tweet about the Vikings, I get a feeling that he is still sour.
