Seriously, I can understand that perhaps you'd prefer to see him used differently or even that you believe it's possible to get more out of him but in 2012 he came within 8 yards of breaking the single season rushing record, had over 2314 yards from scrimmage (tied for 8th best all-time) and was voted league MVP. I think it's safe to say, with confidence, that he was used effectively .
I don't really think the most effective use of an Adrian Peterson is getting the maximum # of yards out of him. Still, AD had over 1000 yds after contact that season and the team barely squeaked into the playoffs with him as their crutch on offense. Completely relying on him to carry the offense is not effective use of him IMO...in fact it's piss poor management of a quality weapon. Granted he was basically the only weapon they had any consistent success with that year and it may speak to the type of team complimenting him more than any coaching gaffs or lack of creativity.
The most balanced offense the Vikes have had since AD's arrival was in 2009, and AD had 6 more TDs and over 200yds more receiving than in his record year and the offense scored almost 100 more points. More effective use IMO. And I would wager Favre had more to do with that than anything Brad Bevell did. It's probably more fair to suggest that coaches (Fraizer/Musgrave) have been hampered in their abilities to make the most out of his talents based on the talent at QB for most of his career. It is probably a reach to say the failure in my eyes is all about coaching or lack thereof.
I just think the most effective use of the guy comes when he is not required to carry the offense....I don't believe it's happened yet as a result of coaching. His 2000 yds were more his own doing and defenses lack of respect for Ponder not some coaching brilliance.
Turner is the first guy who is somewhat comparable in skill at his craft as is AD.......it remains to be seen if the game has not passed Turner by.

The conclusion I struggled to get to is that my idea of effectively using Adrian results in the whole offense being better due to him. I think that is unrealistic to expect solely by him or any coaching effort. He had his MVP year but the offense was way better in 09 in which his numbers were more his average.
As usual the QB is they guy that makes the whole team better.
AD and TB could spend the next 4 seasons together posting double digit wins with playoff appearances and TB would be the bigger factor just due to the nature of his position.
The thought of it brings up that mismanaged QB position issue angst. If they had ironed out the QB position after Culpepper, is it less likely that AD has his MVP season due to the offense being more balanced ? Can't really say for sure, but I would think yes.
I don't think the Vikings have anything beyond mediocre coaching and QBs for AD's whole career save for Brentfarve 2009. Maybe things are are different now.
I did find this quote from Peterson's agent from 2011 while I was looking at the perks of his contract:
"Adrian loves playing for the Minnesota Vikings," his agent, Ben Dogra, told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "Deep inside he wanted to finish his career with the Minnesota Vikings."
"He said, 'Look, I'm under contract. I'm just going to play,'" Dogra said. "He never contemplated holding out. He understands the business side of things. He's very smart like that. He only knows one speed in life, and that's all out. That's why they call him, 'All Day.'"
