Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
Ben Dogra is correct that its not in Adrian Peterson's best interest to play in Minnesota, and it has nothing to do with his current contract, it has more to do with life after football and endorsements.
Peterson is a brand. He's a brand that is tarnished in Minnesota where the press and many people view him as a child abuser. That makes it very hard to sell himself or use his brand to sell other things.
Second, Peterson's family would prefer to live elsewhere after football, but living elsewhere means living somewhere that his brand isn't established.
Third, Peterson might have 3-4 years to establish his brand elsewhere. I'm sure he wants to do that immediately, as in a year or two, even if he wound up on the cowboys, he would be past his prime, and would have little value. (ie Nobody thinks of Emmitt Smith as a Cardinal). If Peterson goes to AZ and has a couple 1500-2000 yard seasons or wins a superbowl, he'd be a major brand with lots of earnings potential throughout his post football career.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
I agree with much of what he's saying about Peterson, but I find some of it self righteous coming from people in the media. To trash Peterson about all the things he's done in the past (reckless driving, fathering children, etc) while admitting the media (and most others) down played those things as not being a big deal. Now they suddenly matter because they disagree with a business decision he's making (which is what this is for him)? Him not wanting to return the Minnesota and riding in on a camel with a turban on his head at a birthday party are the least 'bad' things he has done and now they want to get upset about his character? Spare me.Vikings28 wrote:Souhan: Hey, Adrian: Enough of you and the camel you rode in on

I feel like he's going to get it worse from the media than Moss, Harvin, and anyone else who left on bad terms.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
@TomPelissero Zimmer sticking with what he has said about No. 28. I love the kid. Expect Adrian Peterson to be in Minnesota. No plans to trade him.
@SeifertESPN Zimmer: Adrian's under contract three more years with us. That's why you sign these contracts. That's why you get these big bonuses #Vikings
@SeifertESPN Zimmer on Peterson: "He's under contact and we expect him to honor it."
@SeifertESPN Zimmer: We felt bad not only about what happened to Adrian and Adrian's son, but also to us. We had some things happened to us as a result.
@TomPelissero Zimmer says he's not really concerned about any distraction if Peterson misses OTAs, minicamp, etc.
Not-related:
@TomPelissero #Vikings coach Mike Zimmer has arrived at NFC coaches breakfast, where crowd awaits: "I'm just here so I won't get fined."

LOL! That last one is pretty funny.dead_poet wrote: Not-related:
The rest sounds like Zimmer just being a "straight shooter".

@TomPelissero Zimmer on next step with Adrian: "I don't know that there is a next step. We're good to go."
@SeifertESPN Zimmer asked about team’s “dance” with AP. “I mean, we’re not dancing. I’m not a very good dancer.” #Vikings
@SeifertESPN Zimmer on AP: When he goes into Hall of Fame, he's going to want to go in with the jersey everyone remembers him as. That’s the Vikings'
@kentsomers Asked at about Adrian Peterson, Bruce Arians says "I ain't saying jack. You trying to get me fined?"

I have to say, I like the line they're taking with Peterson. 'You're under contract, get over it.'

As for the tweets, I like the stance the organization is taking because if absolutely nothing else, it drives up trade value.
Both coaches had some pretty good quotes in there, too.
Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
I think Zimmer was smart to make a comment like "When he goes into Hall of Fame, he's going to want to go in with the jersey everyone remembers him as. That’s the Vikings'". I could be wrong but that seems directed straight to Peterson's ears.Cliff wrote:I have to say, I like the line they're taking with Peterson. 'You're under contract, get over it.'
Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
I actually didn't quite understand the point of the statement, honestly. Regardless of where he goes he'll likely retire a Viking (unless he plays another 6 years and wins a super bowl with said team) ... lots of HoF players spend the bulk of their time on one team and then go somewhere else when they older only to retire with the original team.Mothman wrote: I think Zimmer was smart to make a comment like "When he goes into Hall of Fame, he's going to want to go in with the jersey everyone remembers him as. I guess I'm missing how that statement is supposed to impact Peterson.

Zimmer knows how to motivate and speak to his players. Something tells me that (Zimmer) speaking to Peterson's ego of wanting to be known as the best half back in NFL history would add some fuel to Peterson's fire to prove others wrong (especially all the naysayers).
Anyway, I like how Minnesota is handling this. Hard ball is exactly the way to play with DOG-ra. Emphasis on dog is key.

I thought the comment was just meant to reinforce to Peterson that he's a Minnesota Viking, that it's part of his football identity.Cliff wrote: I actually didn't quite understand the point of the statement, honestly. By the way, if anyone is interested, you can see a brief video of Zimmer talking to the media at the coaches breakfast in AZ today on NFL.com: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... n-peterson

Just have to say, I love Zimmer. Great coach, knows how to handle the media, and is pretty damn funny too.

I like him too. Hopefully, he'll have a great deal of success and be the Vikings coach for a long time.Vikings28 wrote:Just have to say, I love Zimmer. Great coach, knows how to handle the media, and is pretty damn funny too.
