Ex-Viking Kevin Williams finally on ultimate stage

Post by Mothman »

If the Seahawks win, I'll be very happy for Kevin Williams. I'm glad he's going to get the chance to play in a Super Bowl. It's a shame it wasn't with the Vikings but he's been a great player over the years and he deserves this shot to win it all.

Scoggins: In twilight of career, ex-Viking Williams finally on ultimate stage
Kevin Williams watched the arc of the ball from the sideline. He saw it float down the middle of the field and into his teammate’s arms for a touchdown.

For a moment, Williams froze as bedlam ensued around him.

“I still didn’t believe it, I didn’t know what to do,” he said, laughing. “I was like, ‘So we won, right?’ ”

Yes, impossibly, remarkably, stunningly, the Seattle Seahawks snatched a Super Bowl ticket from the Green Bay Packers’ grasp with one final blow in a long sequence of plays that had to happen in the final minutes for that outcome to materialize.

The Packers giveth, the Seahawks taketh.

And now Williams, the longtime Vikings leader and defensive stalwart, finally gets to experience something missing from his decorated career: A chance to play in the Super Bowl.
And now the popular former Viking known as “Ticket” gets to experience a Super Bowl week, a nice story for a true pro at the end of a stellar career. He would’ve loved for this to happen in a Vikings uniform. He meant a lot to that organization and should be a shoo-in for the team’s Ring of Honor someday.

“I gave everything I had while I was there,” he said.

Ironically, Williams considered signing with the New England Patriots before joining Seattle. Now, he will face them in the Super Bowl as the Seahawks’ starting nose tackle.

Williams was flooded with congratulatory text messages after the game, most of them from former teammates and members of the Vikings organization from all departments.

“That means a lot to me,” he said.

Isn't it funny the "relationship" certain teams have w/ one another? Thinking back to Hutch and the poison pill, Sydney Rice, etc. and then, as Breeze points out, the numerous players that achieve their professional goal w/ the Seahawks... our two teams are linked in a funky way.

I wish KWill the best. The guy deserves it.

Vikings will go after Byron Maxwell in the offseason. They have to. It's about time the Vikings get the favorable players from Seattle again. They're due.

Good for Kevin Williams. Sucks that he had to leave Minnesota to acheive this though. Never a good feeling for fans.

I'm happy for any good player who finally gets a ring, but one does question why so many former Vikings do it with other teams and not the one that drafted them.

I know you meant that in a tongue and cheek way....but I think he'd be a really good pick up for Minny. Bring some skill and swagger.

Im glad Kwill gets to play in a SB. He was a class act. Wish Harvin didn't though, that still bugs me.

Horrible emoticon choice...haha

I'm not sure Maxwell would be a great fit in this Defense. He's a big zone coverage guy, and we need more of a man coverage person.

Cover 3 - zone with man concepts.
