I cant for the life of me figure out why they went for the OLB first and not the most complete LB in the draft. Is Rick enamored with trying to find those gems that nobody else saw coming? the "SOD'S"? I am not complaining about Barr, he is good. And I hope for the Vikings sake that Hodges turns out to be more than what most are expecting out of him. But I shake my head when clearly, for me, the value was greater than developing Hodges to MLB and Barr who is still learning a position maybe we could have waited until this year to address. I just thought for the Vikings, the highest value was with Mosley. it seemed the more logical pick to me.
I don't think they're planning on moving Hodges to MIKE .. But knowing what I know now, I'd still have drafted Barr over Mosley. I am really high on Mosley, but I think Barr is going to be a more impactful player. Mosley will probably be All Pro a few times in his career, but a top talent at OLB is always going to be more valuable than a top talent at MLB. YMMV.

Not sure that a top OLB is more valuable than a top MLB, but I have a MLB bias. Most of my favorite LBs play the middle.

I will say this, though: I think Hodges has been our best LB this year. I would not be surprised if he made the Pro Bowl in his career.

Frosted, I have to disagree here. Mosley has already had more impact on his team than Barr has had on his. Just look at Mosley's stats to know that he outpaced Barr by a country mile. I didn't have to wait to see how it would play out this year. If you look back at some of my posts, Mosley was my target guy from the start. I thought that he would be a no brainer. Mosley would be DROY if not for Aaron Donald tearing it up with the Rams.

Yeah, that's not happening. I've been watching some film of Denzel Perryman and thus far I wouldn't mind a lick if he ended up in Purple. From one evaluator:
He has a shorter stature but is thickly put together with a stout build. He's a heavy, violent striker with excellent take-on strength to quickly engage and shed. Displays accurate reads and uses his disciplined eyes to mirror the ball at the line of scrimmage. Love his motor, never takes plays off and shows leadership traits. Smart, with a passion for the game and the coaches rave about his football knowledge and effort on and off the field.

You're right, he's had a greater impact on his team this year than Barr has had on his. I wouldn't dispute that - I just feel Barr will have more impact in Mike Zimmer's defense over his career than Mosley would have.

Like I said, I love Mosley's game. I think he's going to be a fantastic LB (already damn good). I just would rather have Barr long term, that's all. But really, as long as Mosley stays healthy, I believe he'll have a great career. Not disputing that.

EDIT: Since you mentioned him, how good is Aaron Donald!? Man, I would not have minded winding up with him, either.

Well, I hope for the Vikings sake, you are right and I am not.
From the DT position, Donald has 8 sacks and 39 tackles. 1ff. 34 solo tackles. Not bad, I think Mosley has impressed more than Donald. Sounds like a young KWILL.

To be fair, Barr has more upside as well. Look at how well he played this year, despite moving around in college. I wanted Mosely over Barr, but looking at both this year, and the upside/potential based on what we've seen this year, it's a lot closer or even Barr getting the edge.
