Re: Kevin Williams
If it's true that KWill is on the way out, then this is a sad time for me. I suppose it's inevitable. All players run out of time. I've watched a lot of great Vikings come and go. Could the Vikings have handled it better? Maybe, but I honestly don't know. I don't have any real details, so I'll reserve judgment.
Instead, I'll just remember the good stuff.
I'll never forget a game I went to at the dome one year when the Vikings were playing Jacksonville. The Jags were driving late in the fourth quarter for what would have been the winning TD. They were inside our 10 yard line, and things were looking grim. We were sitting in the end zone, way up high, and it all played out right in front of us. Just when things looked worst, KWill beat his man, got in on Byron Leftwich, strip-sacked him, picked up the ball, and rumbled about 90 yards for a touchdown. It took him SO LONG to get to the end zone ... the place was going absolutely nuts as he was stumbling down the sideline, and this wild scene lasted for what seemed like 10 minutes! Finally he reaches the end zone. Game over. Vikings win. An unbelievable play by a phenomenal player.
Kevin Williams has been a great, great player for us. Easily a Ring of Honor player. He was always there, always reliable, and often spectacular, especially when he was younger. I hope he stays one more year, but I guess all good things must come to an end. Here's to ya, big man!

I remember when KWill was drated. Oklahoma St. Knew nothing about him, but when I saw is film, he just felt like one of those long haul producers that does his job very well, is unheralded, and has a long pro career. He'll be a favorite Viking for me.

It is too bad that K Will will not be resigned. He has been my favorite since 2005 (after Moss left). He is a border-line HOF player and an all-time great Viking.

It's going to be weird not to see #93 out there. Probably as weird as not seeing Winfield last season.

It brings back even more memories in my mind:
- The first Vikings game I ever attended was the 2007 season opener. Peterson scored his first NFL touchdown on a 60 yard swing pass and Kevin Williams intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. I was wearing my authentic Kevin Williams jersey that game. What a first game to be at!
- I remember when Kevin Williams also intercepted Trent Dilfer that same year and returned it for a touchdown.
- I don't know if any of you remember, but, to this day, in 2007, when were making a push for the playoffs and we were playing the Redskins at home, Kevin Williams recovered that fumble of Todd Colins. The refs overturned the call and it killed our momentum. If we had gotten the correct call, we would have been in great position to score and bring the complete the comeback we were mounting.
- I remember in 2008 when Kevin Williams had that four sack game against Detroit. He was unstoppable that game.
- Even though it mattered little, I remember when we played that Tuesday night game against Philly in 2010. I can still recall the scene of Kevin chasing down Mike Vick and sacking him. I believe it was his only sack that entire season.
Man... My heart is getting heavy. So many great memories.

I don't want to toot my own horn, but I remembered that without the play by play description... but just to prove it, here is the written description:PurpleMustReign wrote: Kenechi Udeze knocked the ball out, but that play was awesome.
Byron Leftwich sacked by Kenechi Udeze for -6 yards. Byron Leftwich fumbles (forced by Kenechi Udeze), recovered by Kevin Williams at MIN-23 and returned for 77 yards, touchdown. Penalty on Brian Williams: Taunting, 15 yards

Re: Kevin Williams
The call was overturned because Joe Gibbs threw a challenge flag and (correctly) said that we had too many men on the field. Replay showed one Viking defender running off the field and didn't get all the way off in timeHardcoreVikesFan wrote:- I don't know if any of you remember, but, to this day, in 2007, when were making a push for the playoffs and we were playing the Redskins at home, Kevin Williams recovered that fumble of Todd Colins. To me, the penacle of the Williams Wall was the Playoff game against Dallas in the Dome. The entire defense was DOMINATING that game, especially the Wall.

(And by the way, you're correct. I got it wrong ... I mistakenly remembered Williams getting the strip-sack. Apologies for the mixup. Guess my memory ain't what it use to be. Although it only goes to show that nobody remembers the sack. It was Williams' lumbering run that set off the part-like atmosphere, WHICH WAS THE ENTIRE POINT OF MY POST!)

Good bye to a GREAT Viking. He was one of our best to have played the position. God bless you "old man" and may life reward you with great things ahead!

Lol, i know. That was awesome to see. Doesn't Williams need only one TD to set tje record for most career tds by a defensive tackle?J. Kapp 11 wrote: I don't want to toot my own horn, but which account was more interesting to read?

Re: Kevin Williams
Can we stop always comparing what these players make to what the rest of us make in the real world? Get over it -- maybe we are fans because we wish we had the physical attributes, mindset and talent to be professional football players, but we don't. It's like comparing what an architect makes compared to the fry man at McDonald's. They are so different, it's a silly analogy. NFL players make a lot of dough because the industry makes a lot of dough. Do I wish I had that payday? Sure! But I can't get angry over the person who does.
I don't think it's too much to ask for the Vikings to give Kevin Williams a respectful 'dismissal.' The business side of professional sports is often cold. But lending some respect to a player who played so well and behaved with class is the least they could do. And never let it be said they didn't do the least they could do ...

"Meet at the quarterback"
Re: Kevin Williams
The business side of the NFL always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know it's been discussed but it's hard to see a dude who gave his all to a team let go in a way that almost seems cold. The Winfield cut left a worse taste, especially how it was conducted, but this one hurts a bit too. Nothing like seeing such an outstanding player have to leave a team he loved. Gonna miss his incredible play.

Re: Kevin Williams
Free agent DT Kevin Williams has left his Giants visit without a contract.
"Had a good visit and gonna see what happens," Williams said. Going on 34, the G-Men were Williams' first visit. The fact that he's leaving the Big Apple without a deal is an indication his price needs to come down.
