'Rick Spielman' the Vikings For a Day: NFL Draft Simulator

Post by HardcoreVikesFan »

Hey guys!

I did not see this posted anywhere in the forum so I figured I would start a new thread. I am a huge draft junkie and while I was browsing the internet I found a cool website where you can take part in a mock draft simulator. In the simulator, you can control Vikings and draft accordingly. Similarly, you can pick to draft for anyone of the 32 other teams. The only downside is that there are no trades in the simulation, but maybe in future updates there will be trades. I will link to the website so you guys can all play around with it and be Rick Spielman for a day hahaha. To make it more interesting, I would really enjoy it if you guys could post your mock draft results in the thread too.

I will start it off as well. Here was my simulated mock (crown me Spielman):

1st round (8th) - Johnny Manziel - QB - Texas A&M
2nd round (40th) - Ra'Shede Hageman - DT - Minnesota
3rd round (72nd) - Loucheiz Purifoy - CB - Florida
3rd round (96th) - Dominique Easley - DT - Florida
4th round (104th) - Jackson Jeffcoat - DE - Texas
5th round (136th) - Max Bullough - MLB - Michigan St.
6th round (168th) - Tajh Boyd - QB - Clemson
7th round (200th) - Henry Josey - HB - Missouri

Just a few notes: Teddy Bridgewater went first overall in this simulation. They are not accounting for compensatory picks yet. Hopefully they will include those when those are announced. Right now, it is not a true simulated draft because we still don't know who will be picking 31st and 32nd. Also, some of the selections are a tad unrealistic I think. I don't think there is anyway Tajh Boyd falls to round six. Nor do I think that Manziel would be passed over by Cleveland by for Derek Carr.

EDIT* Here is another simulation I ran. I really like this scenario too:

8th - Kahlil Mack - DE/OLB - Buffalo
40th - Ra'shede Hageman - DT - Minnesota
72nd - Stanley Jean-Baptiste - CB - Nebraska
96th - Jimmy Garoppolo - QB - Eastern Illinois
104th - Marcus Smith - DE - Louisville
136th - Aaron Murray - QB - Georgia
168th - De'Anthony Thomas - HB - Oregon
200th - James Morris - MLB - Iowa

This was my simulated 5 round mock draft:

1st round: Khalil Mack OLB
2nd round: Jimmy Garapollo QB
3rd round: Christian Jones ILB
3rd round: Gabe Jackson G
4th round: Daniel Mccullers DT
5th round: Deanthony Thomas RB

I really like this scenario as long as we resign Griffen and get a few Cornerbacks in free agency.

1st round (8th) - Khalil Mack- OLB - Buffalo
2nd round (40th) - Will Sutton - DT - Arizona State
3rd round (72nd) - Jimmy Garoppoplo - QB - Eastern Illinois
3rd round (96th) - Stanley Jean-Baptiste - CB - Nebraska
4th round (104th) - Max Bullough - ILB - Michigan State
5th round (136th) - Colt Lyerla - TE - Oregon
6th round (168th) - Ty Zimmerman - CB - Kansas State
7th round (200th) - Tyler Gaffney - RB - Stanford

They need to trade out of that 8th pick. Took Mack because he was the safest pick at that point, but Would have preferred to trade down and grab one of Gilber/Dennard and an LB or DT after that.

Satisfied with the draft though. Lots of value. Colt could be a huge bargain. Character concerns after quitting Oregon. Would've been one of the top TE's in the draft if not for that, but have the perfect man in Zimmer to right him.

Yeah man, I hear ya. I said the same thing. It isn't a perfect simulator. I suspect that it will get better as we progress through the offseason. They say they update it every Tuesday. I am sure one could get a better simulation of the draft in March as opposed to right now.

Yeah I did it, and David Yankey went first overall.

Wonder how the other team's picks are made, seems a bit random. Neither Manziel or Bridgewater were available when I tried.

That's more realistic than some of the results I've seen posted.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Interesting question for you guys, I just did one that had Bridgewater, Manziel and Mack off the board. Best players available are:

Sammy Watkins, WR Clemson
Blake Bortles, QB Central Florida
Anthony Barr, OLB/DE UCLA

who would you take? I went a little outside the box, took Watkins. To me, it'd be hard to pass Watkins up unless one of the two QBs is there, especially if Mack is gone. I don't ever expect him to be available to us, but if he was I would be very excited to pick him, even though WR is far from our biggest need

WR's are no good without a good QB. I don't think they will draft a WR higher than 4th anyway, if at all.
